Title: Its grim up north!
Post by: leefer on Friday, July 18, 2008, 20:59:24
Well just about thawed out and dried from my day out at that golfing paradise in Southport...The Golf Open, after getting up at 3 am reached Manchester and with the sun peaking through and a miniture bottle of champers being guzzled life was feeling grand....and then it happened, just as thre lights of Southport came into sight my car was nearly lifted off the road with the force of the wind! Then at 7 am after departing 55 pounds for a ticket,10 pound for park and ride, and another 6 pound for a program we followed Howler round in a monsoon...7 over par after 7 he did well to finish his round 6 over...a healthy following of drenched demented Swindonians did our best to keep his spirits up..his playing partner Romero from Argentina was class and he will win a major one day...i spent 2 hours at the 18th grandstand drying out and trying to rid my face muscles of the Wallace and Gromit effect...my sis drove me home so at least a healthy supply of wine kept me mildly happy on the journey home...i would love to say it was a great day but alas it wasnt, badly organised, very poor facilitys along with very expensive food and drink i could handle....but the weather beat me...is it really July?

Good on you leefer. Did you see Boo Weekley? He's my favourite golfer these days, though I did used to like Fred Couples (mostly because his nickname was "boom boom")

how was it badly organised and poor facilitys?
the food is going to be pricey as it always is.

£75 for a ticket for Lords last Sunday (not the top price), £7-50 for a burger and ten chips (after a half-hour queue) and £2 for a small bottle of water.  Now that's what I call pricey!!

Was a great occasion and had a chat with Faldo and Glen Hoddle,Hoddle was a top bloke and said he hoped Swindon get up this year...wasnt overly pricey and my only complaint was the stewarding and facilitys round the course were not great, the loos were not very abundant and the crossing points were badly managed,at times we were waiting for no reason and other times they were letting people cross the fairways while the players were playing...next stop the British Masters at the Belfry, always a good occasion.

Howeller with a 67 today to finish +12 - should finish top 20 I think. Norman will be tired by now and always has had a big blow up in him, I am getting on Fisher to win it at 14-1.
