Title: Holidays with child...
Post by: Miss Angry on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 20:07:08
I have two weeks off in August with roughly £800 to spend on travel for my 9 yr old boy and i... can anyone shoot some idea at me on where to go....?

Idealy it would be somewhere hot for me but with shit loads of entertainment around for him...

If any of you younger ones can recall anywhere you went with your parents, anyone had some nice family experiances or someone been somewhere with alot of annoying families about? Anything could be of help  :)

Bit random and not really alot of help.....but where ever I went on Holiday as a youngster I was always bored shitless as an only child. So maybe taking a friend would help entertain him?

But then im known to be miserable and hate everything, so maybe being bored shitless on holidays was just me.

dawlish warren!!!!!

I went to Dawlish Warren in 99? for the total eclipse....it was the nearest place to Swindon which had a full shadow...I also thought it might be quite quiet.  A little girl died , from some infection she picked up....it was assumed from the beach.  Although there have been some improvements, British beaches are a disgrace.

Best Holiday i went on as a kid was Looe in Cornwall, closely followed by Torquay. Never went abroad until i was 16  and i got pissed on the ferry to Calais and fell in the dock, so wouldn't recommend that

We always go to Butlins (the last 3 years!) as he loves it... always entertained with plenty of other children about. We have already been this year too.

I know its kinda selfish of me to want to do something for myself for a change but i earn the bloody money  ;)

There has to be somewhere that is fun for kids with some sun to boot!

Actually Isle of White is a good shout for youngish kids, loads for them to do with enough to amuse adults as well (lots of pub gardens with climbing frames Etc). My then 4 year old loved it, and i had a good time too.

really no need to be worried with all of the safety stuff they have to go through nowadays.

Get a last minute deal to somewhere sunny but not so exotic (e.g. Mallorca) is probably your best shout.

Women are biologically programmed to worry about their offspring...end of.

  Bob Nudd eh....tight lines.

Alot of people I know that have kids go to Egypt as they tell me its child friendly - although it would be mega hot - the sea and the snorkelling are so amazing - so many fish if your lads into animals and stuff?

how about centre parks in this country - I know its a little on the pricey side too

Majorca or anywhere in the Bellerics, good family fun, they cater for families better than anywhere else in Europe imo - evening entertainment and kiddies clubs top class.

salou is cheap and good for young kids.
dawlish warren is a great shout in britain.loads in the local area, plenty of cheapish caravan parks with kids entertainment, swimming pools etc. and you can just hop on a train for a few quid to get around.

Im loving yeovils idea  ;D

Cheers for the ideas guys...

The problem i think im gonna have is once i find something they will charge me a single occupancy fee as i am a single adult, then charge me for a child... i dont see why they cant just charge me two adults it would be cheaper. Maybe he could pass as a dwarf!

JFW, he'd love to go to Egypt! He likes history, buildings and water etc. We were looking at going last xmas but couldnt afford it due to the above!

you know in this day and age I cant believe they cannot be more flexible - those occupancy charges are just stupid
