Post by: leefer on Sunday, July 6, 2008, 09:19:54
Who likes them....i know alot of people cant stand them, ive got the boxset and its quality...Ricky Gervais copied the way the fat guy Oliver Hardy used the camera, for such along time ago its brilliant. The thin guy Stan Laurel was born in England and moved when young. They did one small tour of England when they were old in Bristol and London..Ollie Hardy was a heavy gambler and lost all his money at Ascot races so they had to fit in another gig to earn abit more....so they came to Swindon at the Empire ware Le Dolca Vita is now!

They are some of my comedy heroes, probably partly due to that back in the 70's every school holiday TV slot was filled with at least 2 of their short films, usually just before Why Dont You!  :D

TBH I was never a great fan of L and H , although I do appreciate the genius of their work.

Didn't know they performed at the Empire though.

Stan was born in Ulverston which is near Barrow,  apparently there's an L and H museum there.  It should be worth a trip for the 40 scummers who make the trip for  the Non League opener, to pay homage to fellow purveyors of comedy gold.

I think it's quite menacing when Ronnie and Reggie post one after the other....

Used to watch a fair bit of L&H on SSVC as a kid. SSVC was quite a good channel to watch as a youngster - I doubt I would have had the opportunity to watch some of the classics.

My favourite as a kid - The Phil Silvers Show  :D

(Granted that was a good 2 decades after L&H peak glory years)
