Title: Met a legend today Post by: The Professor on Monday, June 23, 2008, 15:50:41 Had a business meeting today at the City Ground in Nottingham. During lunch I got a chance to chat with & shake the hand of Colin Calderwood. We reminisced about that goal he scored against Port Vale from the edge of the Swindon penalty area, his career at Swindon particularly the Leicester vs Swindon Premiership play-off game at Wembley & last season. He's a very strong character & is intent on building a good squad at the City Ground to establish themselves in the Championship.
Whilst there I met a Scottish International who was down from North of the Border with a view to signing for Forest - not going to betray a confidence but watch this space! If it is hopefully it'll act as a deterrant for players in the future contemplating joining the hun! Go from being considered one of Scotland's best strikers to Championship mediocrity in one easy year.

The player I was talking to has got just the one cap & is currently with a Scottish Premiership club - but not one of the big two. I've been on both Forest & the Scottish club's website & there's no mention of any potential transfer so I'd better not say any more - wouldn't want to screw the deal.
I have to say that for a Sassenach I'm always amazed that Rangers (and Celtic to a lesser extent), with their ability to pick up the cream of Scottish youngsters, never develop them as far as the first team or blood them at a young age. They must have opportunities to select them for some of the less demanding league fixtures but don't. The Scottish team would have a larger pool to select from if they did. Just for the record he was signed from Rangers by the then Motherwell manager Maurice Malpas. I seem to remember he had a prolific scoring spell whilst on loan at Doncaster Rovers about 2 or 3 years ago, something like 4 in 7. He was one of the reasons that Motherwell qualified for Europe last season. If he signs he'll be a good acquisition for Forest.
