Title: 12% beer Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, June 9, 2008, 17:03:57 Alcohol actually destroys enzymes and kills the yeast cell if in high concentrations.
This happens at different levels for different strains of yeast.. Brewers yeast cannot withstand much beyond 5 or 6% Alcohol by volume. Wine yeast is more tollerant at a range of 10-15% Specially cultured strains of yeast with the correct enviroment can withstand alcohol levels up to 21% alcohol. Hence this article about the worlds strongest beer..... http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/news/page.cfm?method=full&objectid=13044414 Title: 12% beer Post by: ronnie21 on Monday, June 9, 2008, 18:34:36 So you drunk it then Ash? No I wasn't being soft, thirds was all they served it in being 12.9% and three was all they would allow you - but you would get a certificate for three. And a hang-over. But like all really strong beers it was far too sweet and a bit medicinal.
Never tried the Hair Of The Dog Dave from Portland, Oregon which is meant to be 29%. Title: 12% beer Post by: Gazza's Fat Mate on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 12:23:49 If the beer had tasted nice I would have drunk it but it tasted like shit!
Title: 12% beer Post by: BANGKOK RED on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 12:40:58 Malaysia is mentalist for super strength beverage.
I got a bite eat once and thought I'd wash it down with a guinness or several. After about only 3 I was feeling a tad pissed. Upon enquiry I found that the Guinness was 8.5 %  Maybe not the 16% but still enough to do some damage.
