I'd go M69, M1, M18, A1(M) way.  M5 and M6 does my head in.

I would normally go that way as well but the A1 past Newcastle to Edinburgh does my head in, about 100 miles of single carriageway stuck behind lorries and tractors.

I may try the M6 this time.
