The George at Sandy Lane, near Calne/Chippenham

There's a nice one out Hook or Purton way. Can't think what it was called though as I've only been there once.

Did you? Bloody hell.. They always seem to have darts tournaments on when I'm there. There is an old programme with Ossie Ardiles on the front I want to nick as well as a picture that has the old ST traffic sign and says SWINDON TOWN FC 1969 LEAGUE CUP WINNERS

Radcot looked great when we drove through it. What was it like? I know there are like 5 bridges around it etc looked to be a decent beer garden etc..

nowhere to park as the one across from the pub was locked.and most of the garden was occupied by a big fuck off tent.
was a waste of my time

Drove past there on the way back from Witney and thought I would have to go there.... was the beer selection decent in terms of real ales etc?

I was about to make a very similar pub Mr red.

Fuck any pub which isn't within reasonable stumbling distance. I don't think I could ever cope with living out of town. Not even in the new buildy suburby places.

I meant point not pub. In the first sentence that is. I think I'm more pissed than I think I am.

Puuuubbbbb.

If it turns out to be the Bollingbrook Arms, reeves4england is very wrong.

That's the only 'country' pub I can think of between Purton & Hook. It's an overpriced shithole really.

Although he could be thinking of Riffs Bar, but I wouldn't call that a country pub.

A little more out of the way for you Swindonians, but here are two recommendations from me:

The Queens Arms at Bleadon - about 2 miles out of WSM on the Burnham road. A Butcombe pub with very good home cooked food.

The Bell at Lacock - bottom of Bowden Hill, 6X, Bath Ales Gem and a couple of rotating taps for the hophead, and decent well priced food as well
