This makes me sad. Gazza was my hero growing up.  :(

he seems a bit beyond help - maybe being detained is what he needs - very sad - he seems intent on destryoing himself

While I've got every sympathy with anyone who finds themself in that situation, I have to say my first reaction on reading this on the Beeb site was "What? Again? I didn't know he was out from the last time" He seems to be getting sectioned/detained/whatever on almost a fortnightly basis at the moment

aint the bloke getting support from 5 bellies and other friends and family?

i think some mental health recovery cases can need the patients will power to get better.

My favourite Gazza story is the one where he's walking down the street past some roadworks, sees one of the workers with one of those big ground drill things...

"Gis a go like man"

And so the worker let Gazza have a go at drilling up the ground.

if u have read his book u will realise he has never been right in the head, but football was his saviour now he hasnt got football this is the result, in his book he says he was away with England, there was chickens out the back of the hotel, so he went to every room that players were staying in and took their soap, and spent ages throwing soap at chickens

Very true , it was from the age of 8 when he witnessed his cousin being killed.

My first and most abiding Gazza memory: his appreciation of Swindon supporters after Newcastle dicked us 5-0 in the FA Cup in 88.

We must have had 40ish coaches there, so getting out of the car park was a nightmare.  Gazza had ripped us apart.  Just a boy of 18 or 19, he chose to stay in the car park, larking, clowning around with the Town fans.  Humble as.  He cheered a lot of miserable journeys home that day.  

It's hard to forget just how good he was until the 1991 Cup Final.  In so many ways he is still a small, fragile, desperate boy.  In others, he has always been a man.

I missed that bit with Gazza - I was too busy being chased back to my car. He had a great game that day unlike Mirandinha who was crap.
I think Gazza needs sectioning. I hope he doesn't get plucked out a ditch somewhere in the future. The way he played the game has given me a lot of pleasure over the years and I get no joy from seeing him in this state. A nice ending would be he gets sectioned, gets his act together and helps others. Unfortunately, at the moment it looks like the ditch.

why dismiss will power?
it helps in many cases. a will and determination to recover can help for sure.
i've seen it myself.

I can see where you are coming from Arriba, the patients actually has to to want to get better before he can get better and that takes will power.

there are so many different types of mental illness.and it can crop up in so many different ways.
some people have no idea they are ill.then others know whats happening but cannot cope with it, or understand why it is happening to them.

anti depressants and uppers etc alter the state of mind to think positively.eventually will power and determination can mean an end to medication in alot of cases.
other illnesses can trigger mental illness too.i've seen it for myself and it was something i never could have imagined.
it really opened my eyes to it.

Gazza was one of the most talented english players of all time.  Pleasure to watch

He is so lost at the moment hasnt got football and has no direction in life.  Sad to say my mates at the mo are like that nothing to do so sit in pub drinking and doing other stuff to pass weekends in close season.  Slipery slope.

I hope he gets better
