Title: Music from my youth
Post by: axs on Friday, May 30, 2008, 17:22:15
This afternoon I have been mostly playing random CDs from my teenage years.

James
Ash
Divine Comedy

I'd forgotten some of it is bloody great.

Anyone else got any favourites that remind them of their teenage years?

Like a more glam metal (or cock-rock if you prefer) version of GNR.  Very, very good.  Used to play it whilst playing Repton on my Spectrum.

I might put a bit of Pulp on. Unfortunately I can't listen to Common People since the William Shatner version was made. Shatner is too epic.

Ha ha, that song reminds me of a family holiday at Pontins when my sister:

a) decided to chuck a patio chair through the window of our chalet (she was only 7 or 8)

b) my sister fell out of the top bunk onto the floor and just carried on sleeping, didn't even wake up!

The most random song that reminds me of stuff is 'She's on the phone' by St Etienne, as sung by 30 drunk 17 year olds on a biology field trip to the Gower peninsula.

on a random tangent I just read this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7426971.stm

the rest of Europe's fishermen are on strike, let's get out there and steal their quotas while they're not looking.

As a bonus I got three variations of 'There' into that sentence.\ :D /

I quite like the Lightning Seeds, Lady.....fav track might be Sense, mainly because it features Terry Hall.

The thing whereby you  associate events in your life with particular songs, which develops in the teen years, never leaves you....well I suppose it might if you grow up.

I thought i was the only one who was going to add some old hip-pop as my teen tunes. Everyone else seems to talk of music which i look at as being quite recent. :? I recently bought Totally Krossed Out, for nostalgia's sake. I used to love "Jump" more than my parents.

Tunes by all of these gangsters fill me with memories. Snap, Rebel MC, Bobby Brown, Redhead Kingpin and the FBI crew, Salt and Pepper, Technotronic, Nina Cherry, Soul II Soul... I could carry on all night. I'm visiting YouTube.

Edit: Just stumbled across Heavy D & The Boys, Naughty By Nature, Arrested Development, i've said i could carry on, so i'm gonna stop before i write another essay.

Ah, Leicester's finest (or was that Showaddywaddy).  A mate used to work with singer of Cornershop in a pub that no longer exists...the two may be related.

I beleive my old lecturer Sunie Fletcher had a kid with Bill Drummond of KLF fame. She used to talk about her days working for NME and MTV - then we found a blog about her by one of her old colleagues - her stock was raised when we read it!
