does anyone on here fish? i did a bit of fishing in the states and loved it.

problem is, other than buying 'stuff' and getting a licence i haven't a clue where to start.

have you tried fried catfish? it's nice and i don't usually like fish.

i only caught bass and crappie, but then that's all that was in the lakes i fished...

If by fishing you mean coming down to Swindon and chilling out with Ben in Old Town then I'm well up for it. I won't even drink much if you don't want me to. No wait that's a lie.

I used to quite often sit around the lake at queens park (is there fish in there?)  to have a smoke in my younger days. Avoiding tramp rape whilst stoned was always fun. I found loads of grubby porn in the bushes there when I was about 12. That would be pre-internet days, teenagers have it easy in these modern super information motorway days.

I was a bit of a keen Angler in my early teens. I've got shit loads of kit; a couple of rods, a few reels, bait boxes, weights, shots, floats, lures, nets.  Haven't been for years now and thinking about it, I can't even remember how to tie a hook  :oops:

A favourite spot of mine was on the Thames, just outside Cricklade. A nice little swim, old Willow tree right on the bank. Got some fucking huge Perch out of there before. Also good for stocking up on roach then take a wander down stream to where some tributuries (sp?) join the Thames; whack the Roach on a lure and do a bit of Pike fishing.

As for places in Swindon, Coate Water's not bad but you do get pestered by passers-by quite a lot. Their season start's up again on 16th June. Think it's about £5 for a day permit.

Peatmoor lake is good. As is raychem lagoon down by cheney manor industrial estate

I went deep sea fishing at night once. For bait to catch the big fish we first had to catch squid.

i agree with you.i'd say for a novice peatmoor is the perfect choice.loads of fish and it aint difficult to catch.coate can be tricky and i'd wait until you get a bit of knowledge first.shaftesbury road lake was re-stocked a year or two ago so that might be worth a go.

What Arriba said about Shaftsbury really Sonic.Very good lake in regards to just starting out full of Breem,perch,roach,carp,tench etc

As for the actual equipment itself i would actually recomend buying second hand to start off with as alot of people say they like fishing but end up not doing any after the first few attempts.

If you fancy it one day i am more than happy to pop down with you its not a problem

Oh yeah, one more thing. Check with your mother beforehand whether it's ok to put the maggots in the fridge. And when you do, make sure you put the lid on tightly. My step-dad found out the hard way :mrgreen: .

Sometimes I walk down the old canal which runs along from foot of Kingshill...they do fishing there, which seems to consist of dangling a pole (insert racist joke OF) into the canal and these big fuckers which look a bit like carp, but probably aren't, just take the bait.  It looks pretty easy, think you must get a booking from nearby farmhouse.

  I did some river fishing in France 3 or 4 years ago,  thought it would be a good father/sons bonding activity,  which it was, but caught fuck all.   Had all the kit, which I borrowed and carted over there....none of us have botherd with becoming pecheurs.

I often walk down that stretch Reg still amazes me for some reason every time I see the Gold fish in it

I went sea fishing in new zealand, up in paihia, very nice day out. Also went sea fishing on the south coast here at night in the freezing cold and pouring rain and caught nothing. that was shit.
