Title: ISAs Post by: DV on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:48:06 no.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:49:38 thanks mate.
Title: ISAs Post by: DV on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:49:57 no problem dude.
Title: ISAs Post by: DV on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:50:35 on a serious note, I think Bennett is the person to ask. I'm pretty certain he deals with these at work...?!
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:51:20 does he? i had no idea. despite him probably having mentioned it loads.
Title: ISAs Post by: DV on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:54:29 I remember him and Mulley talking about them once in the pub, but how much Bennett actualy knows, you'll have to ask him.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:54:58 I'll do just that.
Title: ISAs Post by: Scot Munroe on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:58:17 i work with ISA'S at Nationwide.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 20:59:05 are your's the best?
Title: ISAs Post by: Scot Munroe on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 21:01:31 of course.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 21:01:48 sold. I'll have one please.
Title: ISAs Post by: Barry Scott on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 22:08:46 I used to have use a JP Morgan ISA, and they have some amazing funds. If you fancy some high risk, then they have volatile funds such as Indian and Russian ones, the returns could be pretty sweet, but conversely the risk is significant.
A few years ago you were getting about 60% pa on the Indian Investment Trust, but it's not given much positive return for any investments in the last 3 years or so. Balancing the risk would also be tough, so you'd essentially have to consider the money as being thrown in the fire and have the balls to take the fluctuations. If i'm being completely honest though i know near nothing and am merely trying to look i do know something. :D Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 22:11:31 no, i want ~zero risk, i don't have enough to spare to get risky!
Title: ISAs Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 22:37:59 I have one with NatWest Andy, put the full whack in there (£3k) and earn about £14 interest p/month, well worth it.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 22:42:27 cheers dude, i'll check it out.
Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 22:51:38 Fella first of all are you after a cash isa or stocks and shares ISA??? Big difference. Not sure if you're taking the piss about the zero risk comment but if you're serious it sounds like you're after investing in a cash ISA (max £3,600 pa), if you want a bit more risk and you have more to invest (up to £7,200 in stocks and shares) and you;re looking for a medium to longterm investment then there's a lot more choices available.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 22:53:58 cash, £200 a month or so, will be under the annual limit, just want the best interest rate that still gives access should i need it.
Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:00:19 I know HSBC have an ISA with a 6% rate at the moment (which I'm interested in) although I think the interest is annually not monthly. Get yourself on to moneysupermarket.com
Maybe worth looking at some notice accounts (poss 30/60 days notice) to see if you can get better interest rate. From what I've seen tho it looks like 6.2% is roughly best you can get at the moment tho. Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:01:46 6% is better than the ones I've seen so far, i'll check it out. It seems nearly all the interest is paid annually on 31st march.
Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:08:33 There arw a few ISA's that pay monthly which means you get compound interest, rather than the yearly rate. Worth investigating mate. I think the HSBC one was one of the better ones I saw when I looked into this last week.
Always worth checking the sunday press about this sort of stuff, the more newspaper publications than gossip rags though. Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:12:57 cheers for the advice dude, i'll do some more research.
Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:17:53 No worries man, if you need any more help on this kinda stuff send me a pm, I'm no financial adviser but I'm into this kinda thing, especially when it's not in the early hours of sunday morning.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:19:36 :) cheers fella.
Title: ISAs Post by: STFC_Chris on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:22:39 Isn't Barclays' ISA one of the better ones to go for at the moment? 6.25%. Can be opened online, but with so many people applying at the moment they are taking a while to send out letters and info etc.
Edit: It looks like you can only apply online if you are an existing customer. Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 23:34:24 Ona side note
Jessie paint your pictures, bout how it's gonna be, by now I should know better, your dreams are never free, but tell me all about our little trailor by the sea, Jessie you can always sell any dream to me, oh Jessie you can always sell any dream to me... I think every now and then when you're looking for some financial advice it's worth looking back to some mid to late 90's songs, I often do, and Barclays may have a decent ISA but there are others available, just as good. Title: ISAs Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 00:52:49 i have an isa with nationwde because my dad works there. but its got a eit of 7000 pounds i think, what happns if i go over 7000. they'd better not take my fackin mopney, or else tger will be trouble hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr nationwide poxy bastards. im getting a new account in the sumer ayway you shlagsssssssssssss mwahahahahahha
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:00:50 they charge you tax if you go over it.
Title: ISAs Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:25:38 do they?? thats a bit rubbish. not that i'll be going over the limit any time soon mind...
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:27:40 otherwise all money would be in ISAs and income tax would have to go up instead.
Title: ISAs Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:28:49 fair point
Title: ISAs Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:31:01 As metioned earlier Dave, you have £7,200 you can invest in ISAs tax free in a fiscal year. Up to £3,600 of this can be in a cash ISA and the remaining amount in a stocks and shares ISA.
If you go over £7,200 in one year you will get taxed, but you can have more than £7,200 in there accumulated over more than one year. Title: ISAs Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:35:34 ah right. doesn't sound too bad that way i guess
Title: ISAs Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:47:32 The IFAs in my office were saying they have clients with six figure sums tucked away in ISAs
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:48:04 they must have started early.
Title: ISAs Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:49:03 Started when it was all PEPs in the eighties I believe.
Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:49:42 must be time to spend it by now.
Title: ISAs Post by: Fred Elliot on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 09:58:39 I am currently running 4 including a mini one for Jenna, was a godsend when they raised the tax threshold to £3600 this year.
Currently looking at guaranteed income return bonds Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 10:34:36 No such thing as mini Isa's any more Fred, just cash or stocks and shares ISA's but I know what you mean.
Through work I've seen the "million pound ISA" worked out, quite impressive, however with those large sums it's probably worth getting IHT out of ISA's and into a more IHT friendly investment, as if you die then the tax man will be rubbing his hands with glee. That said I'd imagine those with large ISA's stored away would have adewquate protection to pay any IHT bill, so good news all round. Nationwide wouldn't allow you to do this anyway, growth is virtually tax free once the contribution has been made. Title: ISAs Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, May 25, 2008, 16:08:59 ISAs are great. Got one with Nationwide. Great way of saving.

take a guess. :D no i don't have £3,600 now. How about I buy you a pint later and you tell me about them? I'll you one too Birthday Boy Ben. Title: ISAs Post by: Bennett on Monday, May 26, 2008, 14:18:29 perhaps tomorrow night old bean, i'm off to reading tonight to drink, dance and make dirty eyes at female student types
the only one you could subscribe to regularly would be an instant access ISA but the rate is pretty poor at 4.80% but once your dosh is in there and you've got upto your limit of £3600 you could change it to a fixed rate isa at 6.15% and start again in the new tax year with the instant access i look forward to jimbob reading this :D Title: A tip. Title: ISAs Post by: Nemo on Monday, May 26, 2008, 15:51:59 If you've got more than 5k, Alliance and Leicester seem to have a 10% one going. Title: ISAs Post by: axs on Monday, May 26, 2008, 20:49:30 trust me, I don't have more than 5K, but thanks for the advice.

And do you mean £5k transfer or are you talking stocks and shares? If so that can't be a guaranteed 10%. You need to already have your current account with them (Which I do, and their giving me 10% interest on the first 1000 which is nice, as it'll never get past that).
You also need to open up a Legal and General or Credit Suisse stocks and shares investment thingy at the same time with £5000, and then you can put money into the 10% A+L one. Bit too complex for me, but might still be a good deal if you're willing to risk it. Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 08:10:00 I thought there'd be conditions, 10% interest rate, with the state of the economy people would go for that like flies round poop.
Title: ISAs Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 13:09:50 If I put money into the Barclays one and didn't manage to invest the 3,600 by April do I still get 6.25% or does that only apply when you put in the maximum...anyone know ?
Title: ISAs Post by: McLovin on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 13:28:01 with a Cash ISA you'd get that rate of interest on anything you invest. Unless there is small print.
Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 13:57:34 Cash ISA's are interest earning accounts (some fixed some variable), so whatever the level of interest is stated you should receive, subject to terms and conditions, i.e. minimum investment amounts.
Title: ISAs Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 14:06:56 i've a whopping £35 in my ISA. i think i'm going to put £200 in and forget about it for a while, hopefully to return to a nice, interest-boosted surprise.
Title: ISAs Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 15:04:04 I've already got one Cash ISA and want to open another, so will have to put it in the Mrs name as that will be one that I want to put money away for when we move (towards solicitor fee's etc) so a good place to gain a bit of interest
Title: ISAs Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 15:11:51 You can have more than one cash ISA, you just can't invest more than £3,600 in a year. So if you've already got the full allowance in one which accrued before 5 April 2008 then you can invest another £3,600 into the same ISA or you can open another one and put up to £3,600 in that.
Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 16:05:46 Not one of the clearer posts you've ever written Sam!!
Title: ISAs Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 16:17:05 You can have more than one ISA (with different providers) but can only invest with one provider during a tax year, unless you're investing into two different types of ISA i.e one of the a cash ISA and one of them a stocks and shares ISA, then it doesn't matter if they are with different providers.
If you haven't paid into an ISA after 5 April 2008 you can open a new one. Title: ISAs Post by: janaage on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, 16:21:02 You can have a cash ISA with one provider and a stocks and shares with another provider in the same tax year!
