Title: Country Pub Lunches
Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, May 24, 2008, 12:54:53
OK

Need some suggestions.

Going out for lunch on Monday with Jenna and really fancy somewhere out in the country that is kid friendly.

Having not been able to drive I have lost touch with places like this that are recommended

Any ideas would be welcomed

Love

Fred

xx

How far do you want to travel?

There are some lovely places around here in the cotswolds.

calley arms, en route to chiseldon.
go through wroughton(if you're oming from swindon, go straight over at the 3 tuns roundabout), up the hill and round the corner then take the left signposted chiseldon, keep going for a couple of kms, and take a left, kid friendly, stop doing munch at around half 2 i think, but do some lovely food aswell as usual sarnies and burgers... reasonably priced too.

if not, definetely 3 crowns in brinkworth, more pricey at lunch but quality.

the swan is very overpriced though, nice place nevertheless.

It used to be, but the food in there has gone right downhill since the old landlord left.

There are 4 of us, 2 adults 2 kids

Been before but cant book so waiting times may be a pain, and the elaborate menu may not be to the kids' taste

if the weather is nice the riverside at lechlade is decent.
went a couple of weeks ago.not top food, but fair enough value for money and the kids will like it

The Rose revived toward Oxford - right next to the river and food is good too.

The Brewers arms is quite nice in Wanborough as is the Plough.

Just down the road from there is the Churchill - also not country per se, but they've got a soft play area. I know Jenna's probably a bit old for that but you don't get much more kid-friendly do you now?

The other little girl is only 2 1/2 so something along those lines would be ideal

A bit late to be helpful now, but for future reference...

There's a great little pub in a place called Foxham, on the back roads near Lyneham. It's called the Foxham Inn. A relly nice little village and as I say its on the back roads so if you fancy a walk afterwards it is ideal

I used to cycle out there years ago....then it was a really basic village local, we had a few others, but these places tend to close down because of lack of people.

Another regular was the Dumb Post at Bremhill....it was still there a couple of years ago when I was out that way.

Going east, a gem was the Pound at Goosey....marvellous place, I was   to find it had closed when I pedalled out there a while back.
