Rangers deserve to win imo.
People have been slagging off their tactics, but who gives a fuck when its got them the results?

Novo and Whittaker to score, 2-1 i think.

As Frank McAvennie once sang (on Youtube)

"I'm no a Billy I'm a Tim,
I'm no a Billy I'm a Tim,
I'm no a Billy, I'm no that ***king silly,
I'm no a Billy I'm a Tim, thank ***k!"

(although I'm no Tim either).

I'm really torn about tonight, I'd love to see a Scottish club win a European Trophy.....

....as long as it's not Rangers, who I don't even consider to be Scottish.

So it's Zenit for me!!

If it were the Scots v any English team I'd go for said English side however the jocks deserve something out of this so I'm cheering Rangers.

That's because when we produce decent Scottish players (year after year) you old firm wankers steal them from us!!!

I'm supporting no one tonight, just hope the "better" team wins, and the better team is Zenit St Petersburg!!!

Then I'll be cheering on Motherwell, St Mirren and the Doonhamers to completely ruin your season!!

Never forget the traitors, Walter Smith and Big Eck.  McLeish has had his reward for letting his country down, hopefully Walter will get his tonight!

I wont lose any sleep if Rangers get beat, just hope its a good game ....

Looking at the supporters in Manchester today Rangers will definitely have a huge advantage with support, must be at least 200 Scots in town to every Russian. 8)

No its not a surprise they outnumber the Ruskies, but they only have 30,000 tickets and 100,000 Rangers fans have turned up, 70,000 around the bars of Manchester tonight without tickets, that's pretty awesome.

How can they deserve to win before the game's even started? Zenit have also got results this season, by playing quick, incisive passing football, and I know what I'd rather watch.

Rangers are going to have to have a go for a change tonight though, so I'm looking forward to it.

He's only telling the truth, they do normally get knocked out very early in competitions.

Rangers, Celtic, Dundee Utd, Aberdeen - who are yere.

I can understand wanting your local rival national teams to get knocked out the sooner the better, but hoping that all their club sides lose all the time sounds like the geezer has issues.  Couldn't really care about any other nations club sides tbh.

German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, english, couldn't care who gets through.

I agree but I'm probably more bitter and twisted than most football fans. I don't like the Scottish national team and I don't like the clubs either. I'm English and i will support English clubs in Europe. I also want Pompey to win the FA Cup - English not Welsh.

I hope the Gers win tonight they will probably win it on pens again. Don't care how they play football as long as they win i don't give a fuck. Fiorentina should of battered them in the semi in Florence but they did not take their chances. I think Fiorentina had 23 shots off target. Zenit will provide a really tough test and i think Rangers will scrape it. As Zenit is missing there key player in the big striker  Pavel Pogrebnyak who destroyed Bayern Munich before Lucio antics got him booked.

The BBC report quotes a "frustrated fan" as saying:

Quote
Some people are really angry they've spent a lot of money - maybe £4,000 to £5,000 - to come down here for this.

5 grand to get from Glasgow to Manchester?   If I'd known they were paying that, I'd have given a carful of them a lift myself for only 2 grand each

Rangers fans were walking up the Curry Mile singing the National Anthem earlier this afternoon, waving Union Jacks - that takes some balls doing that in Rusholme. Had a mate come back from Uni at bout half 8 - said big screen wasn't working in town and that the Rangers fans were far from happy - loads were getting on random buses to find any bars/pubs. Most missed first half at least.

Don't get me wrong Rangers did well to get to the final, but got what they deserved given there negative defensive approach. Only one team played to score and that was Zenit, who has been superb all through the UEFA Cup fair play to them.

The thing that made me laugh the most was the pictures of Walter Smith after Zenit scored the first - furiously trawling through his notes. One game play and no answer once it is broken down

Once again absolute toss and classic to hear from a German whos national team has played this style for years and been succesful with it.  Rangers had chances last night, they hit the post, had a penalty appeal, Whittaker's deflected shot wide and Novo's chance right at the end.  Yes first half was negative but Rangers had a go after the break and had the Russians worried.

Walter Smith and the team can hold there heads up high after a tremendous european campaign, hopefully they will now move on to a domestic treble  :beers:

I disagree he took a team that had no right to get through the early rounds of the Uefa all the way to the final in the only means possible.  They barely got found out last night, they put the Russians under some pressure and if Nova had took that late chance they would of gone to extra time.  Look player for player against every team and Rangers should of lost but they showed a never say die spirit which Walters famous for and almost won a european trophy, they deserve praise not criticism.

Domestic treble your right enough said. The gap between The Championship and The Premiership grows every year, the gap between Scottish Premier and English Premier is even wider and will never be breached again.
I have always thought it wouldbe good for British football to see Rangers and Celtic playing against the top English clubs in our league but I would fear they would not survive even though they would have fantastic support.

Enda don't rise to those kind of comments, anyone who compares the old firm to championship football is obviously deluded.

But as for Rangers performance sadly I agree that they got what they deserved, the traitor's tactics were all wrong, far too defensive, the better team won which is fair enough as far as I'm concerned.

Hopefully the Celts will have another good showing in Europe next year, can only be good for the Scottish national side, which is all I really care about.

This could go on and on ... we disagree ... I think Scottish club sides are very average, you do not.

Rangers and Celtic are huge clubs and both are in the top 6 in Britain for support, but we are talking about football standards, when you are playing the likes of Gretna, Aberdeen, Motherwell etc there really isn't any competition, in the end the title will always be between Rangers and Celtic, great for their supporters, bad news for the standard of football in Scotland.

My final comment on this as you said it could go on and on.  But if your final comment is true then surely Man U or Chelsea being the only teams to win premiership in recent years means great for their supporters, bad news for the stand of football in England.

Rangers have been very frustrating to watch in Europe, but I do mean that in a good way. They have stifled technically superior teams only in part because of Smith's tactics. Far more important has been the fact that every single one of those players works their fucking balls off for every minute of every match. Imagine how frustrating they must be to play against?

Give Zenit credit though, they kept their cool, kept playing their tight passing game and ultimately got what they deserved. It was always going to be game over once they took the lead and the best team won. No question.

I agree it would be unfair to compare a league that recieves millions and millions of pounds in sponsorship alone, that serves a country of 50million+ people to the SPL, which receives little sponsorship and serves a country of 5 million.

Well maybe if the Spl did something about the amounts of cash Rangers and Celtic get and maybe divide the tv rights up fairly it could become more competetive

The TV companies dictate DRS, nowt much the SPL can do is there?

It is a shame the wealth is so unevenly spread, but the same happens down here.

I could have sworn you just called him Edna! :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:  New nickname I think!

2 legged cup ties are exactly same as league though as you go away trying to stay tight and you try to win home games.  I would say Cardiffs situation is massively different as they were just playing 1 game per round.

Arsenal!!

Arsenal have won the title twice since the turn of the century, not bad two Premierships in eight seasons.
If my memory serves me correctly Aberdeen were the last side to win the Scottish title around 1984, since then it has only been won by Celtic or Rangers.
Even Liverpool have won the title three times since 1984.

Now have a nice day, I promise to shut up now.

Pleased they lost as the they play football in Europe shouldn't win them anything in my view.

Aberdeen should have won the title in 1991. They only needed a point at Ibrox on the last day of the season, but they lost. Mark Hateley scored twice.

Thing about Scotland is that the big clubs have dominated for much longer. Maybe 25 years now. But English football has been dominated by 3 maybe 4 clubs for 15 years. They are one phase ahead of us in terms of big clubs dominating. The whole 9 in a row thing kept Scottish football on the edge of its seat until 1998. But since then its not been the same. Its been a turn off, TV deals are greatly reduced to what they were when Sky had it. Why wont fans turn off the English Premier League in 10 more years time when the same teams win every year?

I think if Rangers and Celtic were ever allowed into English football they would be absolutely monstrous. Man United still got 50k in the 2nd tier. But Rangers and Celtic would get 50k in our basement league. The English clubs are scared Rangers and Celtic would take their limelight away. Thats why there will never be a British league.

Rangers like all Scpottish clubs were allowed into the FA Cup in the late years of the 19th century, as professional football started to overtake amateur.

Queen's Park reached 2 FA Cup Fiinals,  losing to Blackburn on both occasions .....Rangers didn't do much apart from losing to Villa in one semi final.

By the start of the 20th century the SFA had banned its sides from playing in the English FA Cup.

I think that was Rangers chance.....but they probably rightly discerned it would be easier to win things by sticking with the SFA.

I don't think Rangers and Celtic should be in the English league just because they are too good for the Scottish League.

On that basis why not round up the best teams in every worldwide leage and put them in the same competition?

Well done Celtic, it's in their hands now.  Walter's less than attacking philosophy looks like it's lost them the title, although I could be proved wrong if they gub St Mirren 8-0 I suppose.

Very happy for Celtic, they've got some great fans, who've won awards for their fantastic behaviour, "Scotland's shame" get what they deserve.  Nothing.

They got issued an ultimatum to quit English competitions or be banished from SFA ones didnt they? They were quite keen on things like that. They didnt want to pick Scots playing in England for the national side until they had to pick Dennis Law.

My old man peddles that one.

The Italians still do it. They back players from their own league.

It was taboo for Scottish players to come south.
