Glad the scum have gone down. I've always hated Reading. Used to like playing them as well as it was a good atmosphere and we usually played well against them.

Would be nice to get back on an even par with Reading sometime soon. Beating them in a stadium only half-full of plastics would be great after recent years of enduring the smarmy comments of big-headed bandwaggon-jumpers  :mrgreen:

We went out drinking and you couldn't even talk to the cock about football, because all he did was talk about how Reading will be in Europe within a few years and how they are one of the 10 biggest clubs in the UK... He made me hate that club a million times more than i did before meeting him.

Yesterday was a very happy day. I thought back to when they were six points above the drop and how he laughed at the thought of relegation, talked over us any time we tried to say they could go down, and explained "Swindon are shit, we'll be top half at the end of the season". Life is sweet. He had some lovely text messages yesterday.

Most of the pubs around my way are normally filled with either Reading or Chelsea fans, it was so very quiet when I went out for a few pints early yesterday evening, not a single Reading or Chelsea armchair fan to be found.

The crying scenes on the tele were great, looking forward to see more in the local papers.

I am willing to bet that they will not finish top half next season. It Madjeskis own fault for not investing last season and would not be surprised to see half the team gone in the summer.

If you lived in the Reading area you would care, they see themselves as such a big club, there fans really are a bit like Milton Keynes fans - most of their current fans never supported the club when they played at the old delapidated Elm Park.

Their attitude has been, if you're not in The Premiership then you have no right to talk about football - clubs like Swindon are just grass root feeder clubs. Reading going down will give me months of entertainment hours giving a large portion back to these wankers, thats if I can find them of course.

i cannot help but have a bit of admiration for the club(not the plastic fans)for the way they gradually built the club up.

Depends on where you live, sickens me the number of kids around our way that are wearing plastic shirts where as 10 years ago they would have been Town ones.

 I don't think that is strictly true...clubs like Boro, Bolton, Blackburn  haven't really added too many onto their traditional fan base....Wigan get smallish crowds although I suppose more than they used to get, and the likes of Villa have probabaly dropped in crowd size.

 I think the plastic thing sticks to Reading because they've never had large crowds, until now

  Back in the early 70's we could average 19,000+....get 32,000 for a cup game....which showed Swindon to be a football town.  Its just a shame that its no longer the case.

I was confused to see to Reading fan complaining that he doesn't like Madjeski becuase he hasn't invested enough this season.  He said he never liked him.  I assume he thinks Elm Park is a place with some trees....what a twat.  Oh, and while I'm on about this crying when you've been relegated to the Championship is fucking stupid...no need.  Being relegated out of the football league I can understand, but not this.  

All of the above applies to the Birmingham fans who've been having a go...a rebuilt stadium and better players.  Some football supporters have no idea about the long term.  

Should we get a rebuilt/new ground and have some success I hope our fans remember the shit we were in under the Greek before Fitton took over.

To be fair to Madjeski he was ready to cash in when they got to the premiership stating that he had taken the club as far as he could and that he wanted to move aside for someone who had more money and could take the club forward.

Personally delighted no one came in as I think we will play Reading again in the not so distant future now  8)

Exactly right about Madejski...what I don't understand is how short some people's memories are.  He's given them a new ground, better players than they've ever had (with the exception of Robin Friday, obviously), and a couple of seasons in the sun...I'd take that with Swindon right now.

I can remember  in the early 90's Boro, Blackburn and Bolton played in Div 2/3 alongside us, before they moved in to their new stadia, (or before Jack Walker in Blackburn's case) and, whilst Boro always seemed to pull in 15,000 or more, Bolton and Blackburn got worse attendances than us a lot of the time. And Wigan used to struggle to 7,000 sometimes even in the Championship.

So lets not pretend these clubs haven't gained a fuck of a lot of support since they made it big again. Ok they might have been big in the 50's but I doubt many of the bastards with season tickets at the Reebok or Ewood date from back then.

We've discussed this in threads before and I'm all for having some "plastics" at Swindon. The more the fucking better. If we can have a run of sustained success it might even get in there blood enough to make them "real" fans, whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean.

 Its a fair point....there's been many a season where we've had a better average than Blackburn and Bolton, but these are small places....which have seen a diaspora since the 60's, with a lot of incomers not naturally interested in football.  For this reason I wouldn't define their fans as plastic...their new fans are most likely to be family links to old fans.

I'm guessing those plans to expand the Madejski to a capacity of 38,000 are now on hold?

Weve just been told one of our clients based in Reading is now giving up there corporate box at the Madejski as they - quote - "were having trouble getting clients intrested in going and couldnt even manage to get staff to bring friends to make up the numbers"

I've been checking out some attendance stats from 14 years ago, when Reading were at Elm Park, when both of us were in what is now the Championship :

Reading (Finishing 2nd, lose in PO's)   Av Att 9,350

STFC  (Relegated under McMuck)   Av Att 9,744

So despite we getting relegated, we still had a bigger attendance than them....and they claim to be the bigger team !!!
