I vaguely recollect some "Sunken" buddha statues towards the south, Phuket maybe, that are said to be cursed. The reason being that the Burmese army tried to steal those statues and then proceeded to die. Thailand, Burma, Cambodia and Laos often have little squabbles about which temple belongs to who. It was only a few of years ago that some Thai soap episode mentioned that Angkor Wat in Cambodia belongs to the Thai people. As a result the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh was set alight, and the kings of both countries had to issue public apologies to deal with the matter, along with Cambodia building a brand new Thai embassy. They don't like their Bhuddas/temples to be messed about with in this part of the world.
