right so i dunno if anyone remembers that 'strange request' thread.
well it was a piece of work for Arsenal and theyve given me an interview as the reserves and youths reporter off the back of it.

im going up on wednesday where i'll get a tour of the stadium and that sortve jazz and then said interview.

it's fair to say i'm shitting a brick as it's my first ever formal interview.
has anyone got any tips for it?

Do the whole thing using your best Snoop Doggy Dogg impression.

The sensible answer is:

*Go fully suited and booted. Make sure your shoes are polished (sounds simple but stuff like that makes a difference).

*Research the club especially how the youth setup works and what leagues they play in.

*Make some general questions to ask them about the club in general. Ask how they expect the role to develop you and how you in turn will be expected to progress.

*Just be confident that you know you are good without being cocky. Self confidence is the main thing. However, anything you don't know don't try and bullshit. They'll be happier that you're more willing to listen and take it in if you don't know, than bullshit through stuff to get through it.

I've just completed my first round of formal interviews post University and somehow managed to blag a decent job, I was also bricking it ROYALE.

You'll be waiting in the reception thinking "I've probably wasted the train ticket for this one", personally that made it easier for me due to thinking I had about as much chance as being headbutted by the pope as getting the job. I had nothing to lose so relaxed and had a laugh with the interviewer.

Rule #1 I think is to look the part (I wore a 29.99 George suit), appear as a well rounded individual with interests outside of the CORESKILLS that make you the perfect man for the job, share a laugh and non-offensive joke and you might even enjoy yourself, a lot of interviewers are as nervous as the applicants!

Also don't bullshit, just admit your limitations as unless you're Derren Brown it's always incredibly obvious that somebody's bullshitting under questioning.

fuck all of advice to give but good luck dex. sounds like a good job.

The best interview tip I’ve ever been given is to always have a glass of cold water on standby.

First off the chances are at some point your mouth and throat will feel like sandpit and it’ll help in that respect but it will also buy you some time when presented with a particularly tricky question.  Instead of a prolonged silence or rushing out the first thing that comes into your head take a sip of water and it’ll give you a couple of extra seconds to compose yourself and think and formulate your answer.  Plus it’s quite a nice natural break in conversation without a painful silence or umming and arring.

Other than make sure you do plenty of preparation and research.  I’d probably do a bit of work on experiential interview questions as well, which a lot of places use nowadays.  The sort of questions where you can give a specific example of where you’ve demonstrated a skill or ability to backup your answers.

Don't mention that Fatbury was well pissed off you couldn't buy a burger and chips seperately and it was a ripoff.

Oh, take a spare copy of your cv in case there's more than one interviewer.

I think you'll have a good time, arsenal have one of, if not THE best youth set ups in europe as far as talent goes.

im with Dachauer, they dont bring the kids up from the ages of 12-15 really well, they go round the biggest teams in the world and sign their under 18s who have yet to be tied down to a contract by the clubs and just pay peanuts in compensation, like they did with Fabregas, the best they had produced themselves was Ashley Cole, is the only real player of note who is the exception, hoyte dont count cos hes shite

henry lansbury (sp) is meant to be pretty tidy

it's the way football is going isn't it?  i don't think you can slag off arsenal any more than man utd (buying pique etc), chelsea barely have any english youths, liverpool is a spanish youth club, man city have a few slovaks and poles.

atleast arsenal give their players a go and make them play good football unlike most youth football

and that was in the opinion of an old brazilian who, let's be honest, has little knowledge or referencing in modern football.

if a player is that awful you dont play 250+ games under Alex Ferguson and in the most sucessful premier league team like Butt has

the difference with those players and the likes of Bentley and Sidwell is that all of those players listed go given first team football and got runs in the team.

I cant even remember Sidwill every playing for Arsenal, it seems to go oddly unoticed but players get better with regular first team football hence why players like Scott Parker and Steve Sidwell played well went to Chelsea and havent quite recovered.

David Benalty and Jermain Pennant have the done the opposite and got out and gone where the first team football is.

Vital to a players development.

As for Nicky Butt, was always going to look pretty naff in Manchester Uniteds midfield which was probably the worlds best when Butt was there (Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs) but he's a quality player who generally goes un-noticed and always did.....even though he is ginger!

Back on topic, I have one more piece of advice.

Find some recent articles/reports and look into what's been going on from that respect.

I suppose just more common sense research stuff, but it's bloody easy to forget these things.
