  Essentially the Boroughs of Old Swindon and New Swindon were entirely separate, until amalgamation in 1900....North Street markd the northern edge of Old Swindon...Clifton Street the western edge.

 The area to the south down Marlborough Road towards the old cattle market was called Lower Town

 Going east....the old houses clustered around Christ Church on the top of the hill and dropping down Little London, delineate the boundary.  Drove Road was as its name suggests a drovers lane to take animals to market..

   After the merger of Councils the name Old Town became used for what had been Old Swindon.

Fuck no. I don't get people can think it must be boring not having a job. There's loads of ways you can entertain yourself without having responsibilities to actually have to do stuff.

The only bad bit is the skintness, but I think you'd have to be a bit of an uninteresting person if you need to be told things to do / have responsibilities  not to be bored

To be fair I think it's something people say without ever thinking about it. But it's really not true.

It's about £44 a week. I'm not on it though.

  I think check points complete with vedettes would be better...in the 19th century lads from Old Swindon and New Swindon used to meet in the fields between the two towns for a punch up such was the animosity between the two.

 Its a little known fact that the HQ of the British Origami Society, used to be in Prospect Hill.....whoever lived there used to have examples of origami on view in the front window.  Now sadly gone.

  I have to make do with the Roman Archaeology place in York Road, which has a fetching brass plate on the outside wall.

 The Director of teh Association for Roman Archaeology lives there.

  The Swindon area does have some interesting Roman heritage....notably Durocornovium, which was excavated in the 60's.....and was roughly in the Covingham/ Dorcan areas.

 More recently Blunsdon Ridge, which discovery, after a period of great excitement, has gone a bit quiet.
