Title: Car Noise
Post by: Luci on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 10:07:57
Someone is bound to know but when I turn on my car, the engine roars a bit more than normal.  Now I've checked the oil and thats fine and can't think of anything else I need to check myself?

Anyone have any ideas what could be making it noisy?  Its ok when Im actually driving, just when I start it up.

Could be the baffle in the silencer? Do what my sisters do, buy a new car because it makes a strange sound. :D

Do you have a rev counter? How many revs come on when you turn the ignition (and it 'roars) then what does this fall down to as the engine idles?

Could be a few things. If you can take the rev readings it'll give someone in the know a bit more of an idea what it could be. I don't really have anythigng more than a basic knowledge.

It may be the on board computer setting or a sticky throttle cable, or as Bazza said, something more related to the exhaust and air filter system.

It'll be the choke. Take it to a garage, they'll be able to adjust it for you.

Injection engines don't have a choke

take it to m&b on chapel street.i've reccomended them time and again on here but dont think anybody has took my advice?.
they will not rip you off. nobody on here will be able to tell what the problem is from the info you have given.
thats why i said take it to a garage.if you dont fancy taking it to m&b then go to another decent garage that people can reccomend to you.

Duh. Good point.

Probably an electrical fault somewhere then, could be the MAF/MAS Sensor.

sam it wasn't a dig at you.but as well meaning as people are.the vague info given means that lady should go to a garage as she wont get the problem properly diagnosed until she does.
her best option imo is to go to a reputable garage that will not rip her off.
