Title: Roast Beef Post by: ronnie21 on Monday, April 21, 2008, 07:19:01 Yesterday our Sunday roast consisted of a piece of beef that would have been better classed as shoe leather. I know it came from a supermarket but it was awful. We have now decided that the time has come to find a real butcher who can supply us with decent joints of meat. Question is where? Anybody got any recommendations?

Title: Roast Beef Post by: Ardiles on Monday, April 21, 2008, 07:46:14 If a few more people did what you were doing, there would be good butchers on most suburban high streets and you wouldn't need to ask where one was! We don't eat a lot of meat at home, but always get the Sunday joint from the local butcher. A little more expensive, but worth every penny. Good luck with your search.
Title: Roast Beef Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, April 21, 2008, 07:51:18 Or you can go to the outlet village on sundays ( i think) and they have a farmers market. My mum buys sheep from their, all cut up and packed and i think they reccomend it. I guess they do other meats
Title: Roast Beef Post by: ronnie21 on Monday, April 21, 2008, 07:51:31 I know where they are Ardilles, just hoping for a bit of guidance as to a good one!! In Cricklade there are two, one always seems empty and one is usually very busy. Why the difference? Anybody know? Prefer to get a good butcher in Swindon though!

Title: Roast Beef Post by: Batch on Monday, April 21, 2008, 08:11:08 An expensive but good alternative is Butts farm shop. It's just off the A419 on the old Ciren-Swindon road between the South Cerney spine road junction and the Cerney airfiled.
But I guess that means driving to it, and they aren't the cheapest. Title: Roast Beef Post by: Arriba on Monday, April 21, 2008, 09:46:07 the butchers in wootton bassett meant to be a good un.

The farmers market at the Outlet is good; most of the stuff is local and there is a supplier who is just outside Bassett that you can order stuff from (Vowley Farm) Cutting day is Thursdays :) There is a good butcher in Marlborough as well (just by the Town Hall) but depends on how far you want to go - I go for the farmers market once a month and browse the butchers later on. What size - an 8oz fillet should be more than enough per head. Will i end up with a huge fish that i cant afford - see above How will I cook it - pan fried, little bit of olive oil, seasoning. Easy. Do i ask for the head to be cut off - Hell yes Do i ask for it to be gutted - yes, unless you like picking bones out. The scenario becomes more complicated the more I think about it. Title: Roast Beef Post by: PHIL!!!! on Monday, April 21, 2008, 23:03:42 Quote from: "reeves4england" Agreed! We get most of our meat from there actually and it is always superb!!! Whether its a Sunday joint, sausages or pies its great. Think Mr Crump himself passed away a year or two ago which is sad. He often went and watched te cricket at Goatacre and was held in high regard. Basically Corporal Jones from Dad's Army, just without the war stuff :D Haha! I totally agree! It's good to see that his family are committed to keeping the business running smoothly, as well. Y'can't beat a bit of Crumps, that's all i can say 8) Title: Roast Beef Post by: ronnie21 on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 07:10:38 Quote from: "STFC dave" Theres one in walcot aswell.
