Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: DMR on Thursday, April 17, 2008, 23:02:41 good lord i'm looking forward to this. unlike the hatton fight i think we'll see the british hope come out on top this time, i just think he's too quick and hits too hard for hopkins to handle.
anyone got any plans? heading straight to cardiff on sat after the vale game for a session and will probably end up in rileys for this one. should be a cracking atmosphere over the bridge. Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: Dazzza on Thursday, April 17, 2008, 23:27:44 Got a wedding in the day Irish affair so it'll be drinking all day then back for a party and the fight.
Should be a good one but Calzaghe will have it in the bag. Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, April 17, 2008, 23:30:28 I don't give a shit.
Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: lebowski on Friday, April 18, 2008, 07:00:44 Calzaghe's speed and power will be lost in the step up, could be a struggle for him, and a terrible fight to watch.

Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: stfctownenda on Friday, April 18, 2008, 08:58:16 I'm looking forward to this one as already mentioned Calzaghe in a stronger position than Hatton was and in the big fights he delivers so should be a great one, would love to see him knock Hopkins out 8)

The fella that beat Hatton was even performing in it recently. If gettimg sucked in by that sort of hype for your entertainment, is your thing then fair dos, its not for me Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: Ardiles on Friday, April 18, 2008, 09:27:54 I just don't understand why they have to be so rude about each other...before they've even thrown a punch in the ring.

How do you lose power by stepping up a weight? Calzaghe has already stated that he struggled at the lower weight and now feels stronger. Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: Dazzza on Friday, April 18, 2008, 11:17:50 I think you have to either have done or watched some training and sparring firsthand to truly appreciate boxing. The fitness required is unbelievable and the technical and strategic element is a substantial part in the process of kicking the shit out of one another.
It’s always a shame when you get the likes of Mayweather throwing away his and the sports credibility by doing something like WWE and the pre-fight conferences are cringeworthy but not that far removed from the pantomime that a lot of the Premiership gaffers play out through the media. I have to admit the ritual of watching the fight with a few beers and a bit of cash on the side is a cracking evening or early morning pastime. Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: DMR on Sunday, April 20, 2008, 15:30:43 Fuck me what an atmosphere in cardiff, watched it in rileys totally bollocksed.
Must have been bloody close, I suppose calzaghe was always trying to force the pace so he deserves the benefit of the doubt although hopkins must have landed the best 4 or 5 punches. Didn't realise BH was that much of a cheating fucker though, calzaghe should have properly hit him in the nuts and then see how he reacted. Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: Run_the_bath on Monday, April 21, 2008, 13:04:36 It was never gonna be an easy one for calzaghe.
The thing that annoyed me the most was the ref. What he was allowing hopkins to do was fight the same fight that ricky hatton wasnt allowed against mayweather. joe cortez is an absolute disgrace  Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: DMR on Monday, April 21, 2008, 13:14:04 Amen to that, Joe Cortez has always been a "homer" and believes his own hype too much, he's the Rob Styles of boxing
Title: calzaghe vs hopkins Post by: strooood on Monday, April 21, 2008, 13:35:59 i think cortez is a bit of a dude and i'm of the opinion that you need a big character in the middle of such big egos otherwise it just wouldnt work.
i didnt realise Hopkins was so quality still and you can see why, even at the age of 73 or whatever, why he was one of the worlds very best in his prime. bring on roy jones jr, now that will be on a completely different level to hopkins i recon. |
