I've decided I'm getting an Epiphone G400 (fitted neck, the only SG replica licensed by Gibson). Had a play on one earlier and feels and sounds nice, albeit through their 100w show amp. Bargain price as well.

So I'm after recommendations for a practice amp. Looking to spend £60 max really.

I've seen a 15w Marshall amp and also a 15w Behringer amp which has quite good reviews.

Any advice welcome.

I want the line 50 spider but I haven't got round to buying it yet. I think they have one in Holmes if you need a listen though.

As a practice amp its superb, in fact i haven't even turned it up past half way yet.  For such a little thing its bleeding loud and there is a huge range of sounds - the clean chanel has a really nice round sound to it and you can do all sorts with the overdrive and tone settings.  I even reckon if you were playing a pub or something you could get away sticking a mic in front of it and through the PA, without needing to hump anything bigger around. The 15W version would probably be even better

Sam. If you can afford it, consider a 25 or 30W amp at least. I had a 15W Marshall for my first amp and I have to say they absolutely suck. No reverb and only one channel. I would skip it if you can mate, maybe even take the £60, save up a bit longer or buy a 2nd hand one. I had a 25W Fender and it ruled. Did many a gig with it and used it in a studio too. I still regret ever selling that amp.

I've gone with the Marshall 15w. It's actually 2-channel and has reverb :P.

It'll suit me for now whilst I'm getting used to the electric guitar and just playing in my spare room.

I'll get something bigger in future if/when I need it.

If it turns out to be really shit I can always send it back.

Ah no, that sounds like it'll be alright. Reverb is a must when you're starting out. Hides your imperfections. They've obviously upped the spec since I had mine. Late 98 model i think. Was shocking. Anyway, hope it's alright mate.

I've just brought a 100 watt Marshall Randy Rhoades amp which is fuckin imense the trouble is I can't use to it's full potential living in a flat that resembles a shoebox.

do guitar amps use XLR connections? just a random question like.

my amp to CD is XLR so was just curious.

Thye don't mate. Mains is run on standard Kettle type lead, and guitar to amp, they use Jack leads.

Anyone here got an "Orange" amp. The things are top class. Seen one in that Rock and Roll music place and it had 2 heads on top of the cab  :D

I've been looking at the orange amps - may get a smaller one of those now instead of the Line 6 job

Kaufman has one. Or had one. I think.

You can them really small cube amps as well. They are actually pretty powerful.
