C.V.'s should be pretty straight forward really, and should be only one page (Although a 1 page cover letter is acceptable if necessary).

All they should show really are your education, qualifications and work experience with a brief description of your job responsibilities.

The whole point of a C.V. is for the employer to tell at a glance whether or not you have the necessary qualifications and experience. With this in mind presentation is very important *States he obvious*

I'll have a butchers if you like. I can't claim to be a pro although I did do research before knocking mine up and recently it has earned me an interview for every job that I have applied for.

I still need a new f'in job though  :? .

Covering letter and one page tops. I bin anything longer.

They'll decide if your stats get you an interview where you can then go into more detail.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Only 1 page D.V., do some google searches and it will tell you the same.

Bear in mind that the point of a C.V. is not to get you the job, but to get you an interview. All that a C.V. should show is your qualifications and experience. THATS IT.

Considering that a company might have many applicants for a position they want want to be reading through 3 pages and they may not even bother reading it, it will also show that you have not bothered to do your homework on making a C.V.

1 Page is the rule, with a cover letter acceptable ONLY IF NECESSARY.

How does one send attachments in a PM? I'll send D.V. an example C.V.

Two pages is fine.

Should be something along the lines of:

Personal Details
Personal Statement
Key Skills (for IT e.g. what technologies you've worked with)
Employment (latest first)
Education
Qualifications
Hobbies and Interests

if u sign up with agencies they will trim it as necessary when sending out anyhow

think mine came in at 1 1/2 pages (i dont see 2 as a problem so long as presentation makes the highlights clear so that someone skimming can see what you want them to)

Exactly, a fine example of over-elaboration on my part.

Take note D.V.

don't just make a generic CV and send it off left, right and centre - tailor it slightly according to the job.

If it;s IT your looking for, then dont worry too much about length as if you have loads of tech skills or experience of different systems you need to name them all, so the relevant skill gets spotted. I do lots of hiring of IT staff and i get suspicious of short cv's and always like a long list of largely unknown skills.(shows experience even if its bolllocks) Always focus on your last 5-6 years and precis any preceeding down to one liners particularly if they are in a different field. anything could always be expanded on at interview

I was always advised 2 sides, but it depends if it a skills or qualifications based one.  Straight out of uni, mine was academically focussed, now it is work based with my degree as a sideline really.

Space saving tip is to not list references, but list them as 'available on request'.  Also tweak presentation to make it stand out as different but without being gimmicky.

And as for making it bespoke to the job, its fundamental, try and find the mission statement etc of the firm and match your phraseology accordingly.

That isn't just good advice, that is something that will make or break your application. You really need to sell yourself for the specified role. Granted thats difficult if you don't have a specific role in mind though. Good luck.

to be fair, at this moment in time there isnt really much need to send my CV out.

I just want all the information in one place.

Most jobs are apply online and fill in forms.....which ask you all the shit you would have in a CV anyway.

When it comes to someone actually wanting to see my CV then I'll work on it make it specific for that job and not too long etc etc

Thanks for the advice anyway guys!

Yeah I know. I remember blatantly blagging the best paid part time job in the outlet village by saying I like fashion etc  :soapy tit wank:

Have some backup for your interview if you bend the truth a little. They will always ask.

All very well but it's very very obvious when people are telling porkies by listing C, Java, C#, PHP, ASP, Python, Fortran, Assembly, CSS, ASP classic followed by the dreaded "exposure to" and list yet another buttload of acronyms. We pass these CVs around the office pissing ourselves laughing. Much better to not bullshit, or if you are insistent on bullshit be a tad more realistic.

If you know of anymore IT websites then keep them on list, there's always other's out there that people forget about, I'm registered with quite a few and seem to be getting interviews for any I go for but the job turn's out to be crap......like one I went for yesterday less than 50 employees and IT get involved in the rest of the buisness....no thanks !

Although I think my place want to keep me by just giving a very nice pay rise and some promises
