Title: end of an era
Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, March 7, 2008, 08:35:16
Our landlord was evicted yesterday.

All tabs were wiped.

FUCK! paid mine last friday, 70 squid as well.

Temp landlord is a cunt, he is welsh and called Tony and slags of Simon (previous landlord) and only takes cash, who the fuck carries cash around?

Tonight I will mostly be drinking in the next village

I want my local back. Welsh Tony is in for a shock or 2. It was OUR pub, not the fucking breweries.

Thats bad luck, a good landlord is a bonus however these people need to realise the locals make the pub, which one is it bo?

Cash only???  Best way for a pub to make money is the tab system, free drink after free drink Guinness, Guinness, Guinness, JD and Coke, multiple until ready to fall over, until the early hours of the morning when BAM!!!!!!

That'll be £60 please.  I'd never take more than £20 cash to a pub!  Plastic's fantastic!

My old man just used to leave a blank cheque behind the bar.

It's the Fleur De Lys in Norton St Philip.

He ran a tab system before, knew I could just go in and drink and eat with no money and either pay at the end of the night or whenever I felt like it.

First Wadworths took out Butcombe and now they take out the landlord. Lucky there are 2 pubs in our village but the other one is more of a food pub than a proper drinking establishment and is also Wadworths so has crap beer (6X and Henrys)

Food was shit to be honest, and that's where a pub makes its money.

Brewery should have just made him employ a proper chef though instead of the cook he has now.

Thats where the landlord makes his money more than the brewery.

30% for brewery, 30% for the inland revenue and 40% in my back pocket.

My local pub is nothing special, but I use it because I will always meet someone I know as soon as I walk through the door, and of course we have a great landlord and his lady who are always around.

I feel really sorry for you mate, its like losing part of your life.

I could really go off on one regarding whats happening to the old local pubs, the old local post offices and the old local schools, etc ... but I better shut up and jump up on my fence.

Do it dell, I drink in The Flag in town when I can.  People say its a shit pub but walking in and seeing friendly faces is better than some chain pub who dont give a fuck (will await gazza 'I work for a chain did you know' stanley to jump in)

My friend, once you have sampled the nectar that is Butcombe you will never go back.

They replaced Butcombe with Horizon. I now drink Guinness in there, Horizon is proper rank.

6X is ok now and again - Henrys is shite.

Locals are the best places to go, chain pubs are a waste of space.

I love the fact I could pop into my local tonight, recognise about 80% of the people in there and have a good laugh.  If it's quiet sit at the bar have a chat with the bar staff/landlady.

It's like being part of a soap opera having a decent local, always new story lines cropping up?

Indeed Jan.

I knew I could go in after work, sit at the bar and do the telegraph cryptic crossword over a pint with the landlord.

No more I fear.

At least the welsh one in there is only temporary. I'll be praying to the landlord gods that we get someone decent who doesn't fuck with the format of the pub.

Actually this brings back memories of my old locals in Calne, when the landlord left everyone would be wondering what the new landlord would be like, most of the time it felt like a backward step.

Right on mate

Ive been drinking in the New Inn for 28 years

seen landlords come and go but the regulars remain a constant.

Bo is right, its not the brewery's pub, its not the landlord's pub.............its our pub !
