He explained you often made passengers unhappy because in an extreme cross winds you'd often have to straighten up and dump the plane from about 30 feet in one swift move. I presume that was to stop things like that happening, but obviously some slick pilots know better! He once had a mate bring a Tristar in at Heathrow in extreme fog. He was told to abort the landing, decided it was easy, and nearly struck the hotel there. He was promptly sacked and later committed suicide. Title: Anyone fancy a trip to Hamburg? We were literally feet from the runway in stupid winds when all of a sudden the plane pulled back up into the air and climbed rapidly. I thought my time on this earth was over. Seemingly he was advised not to land seconds before touching down.

I had something pretty similar coming into Gatwick a few years ago, it wasn't cross-winds but fog, just as we were about to touch down up we went again like a rocket, circled around the south cost and then came back on approach to land, very quiet plane on the second landing. |
