Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: DMR on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 13:56:04 has anyone on here, or does anyone know anyone, who has been to liverpool or bristol university?
i visited both a couple of years back but then jacked in the whole uni idea and let myself down a bit in my exams.. i've put this right and will be off in september. will be revisiting both before end of april but wondered if anyone had any thoughts? got offers from cardiff (very tempting too), portsmouth and UWE as well Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: strooood on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 14:03:43 know a few lads at pompey, quality for students apparently because the place is a hole.
uwe's alright, my mrs goes there and have a few other mates who seem to enjoy it, but on the most part the halls are extortionate and quite a way from the town centre for the best of them (frenchay) probs wouldnt bother with bristol, bit too close to home i'd say and it's chockablock with toffs which i personally couldnt handle. i'd definetely do cardiff, not too far away but far away enough, quality city and the nightlife is cracking- add to that, depending on what course you're doing, it's probably got the best reputation, i think it's a no brainer mate. best of luck. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: DMR on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 14:10:51 Cardiff's got a brand new business school, which adds to the appeal. I've been out in Cardiff and Pompey loads and know it's an ace night out.
I think Liverpool has the best rep of all of them for my course and is arguably the most prestigious of the lot. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 14:16:33 My boss went to Liverpool - he loved it

I've got a degree from Bristol if thats any help. My mate got a first from Liverpool a couple of years ago....he reckoned it is a shithole....did live in Toxteth mind. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: BANGKOK RED on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 17:16:15 I am considering getting a degree and I have a choice of any university that I like to choose from.
About 4,000 Baht from Khao San road, I think that any degree from Oxbridge will be a tad suspect for a chap like me though. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: Bogus Dave on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 19:18:24 UWEs accomodation is immense. Half of its brand spanking new, but that does mean it costs abit. I think its £104 a week in the new accomodation, and £70-ish in the old, but they are really nice rooms. Their also apparently spending £150 million on new bulidings in the near future, but whether that was just claptrap to try and make me go i dont know. It is right on the outskirts of bristol aswell.
Thats pretty much all i can remember from the open day the other week. What course you doing? Im assuming its business related Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: mattboyslim on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 20:02:34 I got an offer from Liverpool although never visited. I loved leeds University it was my second choice but was near the city, however the accomodation was poorly located. I loved Birmingham Uni, however wouldn't recommend Birmingham City University (formerly BCU) where i study now. Posh halls aren't all that, IMHO, it's all about the atmosphere and the city itself, my time in the 11 storey tower block in my first year was brilliant.
Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: axs on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 20:04:54 I went to Birmingham, good university and loved my time there.
Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. Post by: flammableBen on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 20:04:52 It's much more fun living in a bit of shit hole. Should be part of the experience. If it's a choice between plaster on the walls and an extra £30 a week to spend on beer then the correct decision is incredibly obvious.

Business Studies & Operations Management BSc, you can tweak that a bit depending on the Uni itself but that's the general idea. After I'd possibly be looking at going back into the finance sector where I am now, basically I can't really further myself from where I am now without a degree and also with alot of mates at uni the last 18 months has made me feel like I'm missing out. So no definate ideas yet mate but probably try and get back into the same area I'm in now but I suppose a degree broadens your prospects anyway, and when I graduate I'll have nearly 3 years of proper work behind me as well which will stand me in better stead I think Title: Re: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions.. I know a few people who go to both and they both love it. Best idea would be to go to them again and see which you prefer, if the courses they do are suited to you and you like the atmosphere of the place can't go wrong. I visited Leeds and thought i'd rather cut balls off and give them a hobo than go to Uni there, and i loved Manchester. Horses for courses, once you've been to see them you'll know which one is best for you. Title: seeing as stfc_dave was asking uni questions..
