Dilemma time............................have mulled this over for the last couple of weeks and I have changed my mind every day since.

It is my weekend to have Jenna and, however much I would like, she is more into horsey's and netball at the moment. Now, of course she would love to spend the afternoon with my Mum, and in normal circumstances this would be cool.

However, one of my mates and his handbrake are getting engaged this Saturday and are having a bit of a bash in the evening and of course I am invited and would dearly love to go.

It would be completely irresponsible (not that I ever am) of me to attend both, and I would not want to anyway and loose that amount of my time with Jen.

Mum and Dad have offered to sleep Jen on Saturday night which is cool, but I don't really know what to do

I'd stay with your daughter mate. There will be a time when kids dont want to do things with their parents so I'd spend as much time as you can with her now and cherish the time you have... Thats just me.

Go to your mates engagement instead of the football if you can't do both.

Force her to go to the football, thus ensuring she gets a strop on, then punish her by going to the party without her.  This should ensure a smooth behavioural adjustment for future important fixtures.







Or do what Gazza said, and maybe have a little cry or something as well.

I mean I don't have kids so its hard for me to say really but I know of people who say "I wish I could have done this with my kids" I'd say forget the party mate, I'm sure they would understand... or even just pop out for an hour or so even though you would be tempted to stay out all night. I know from my experiences with my family to enjoy as much time as you can with them...

If it were me I'd leave a decision until nearer the time and see which option appealed to me more.

oooh, strike the end of my reply, I thought Gazza meant going to the party.  Even in sensible mode I'd say the party is the one to go to.

Telling Jenna you're going to buy her a horse will probably get you a pass out to both. Expensive day though.  :)

Spend the day with Jen, then if you want to, go to the party.

Your mate will "Hopefully" only get engaged/married once but you can go to watch STFC again.

BUT let him know that in case of a non-marriage/divorce situation then the football will take precedence, and therefore he should be damned sure that he gets it right the first time around.

This is the way to do it, but it relies on being able to swap weekends and that means the mother has to be flexible and ameniable.....................................................something that took about 4 years to achieve in my case

I am inclined to agree with DV on this Fred.

She don't like footy???? As good a father as you maybe you have clearly be lacking in some sectors. I can assure thee that my little girl will grow up as a die-hard -STFC fan even if she never makes it to England.

Sort it out mate.

Take her to the footy - plenty of carthorses and donkeys on show to keep her happy. Then like most of us she'll need a beer to get over it so take her to the party. The jobs a good 'un.

Engagements should be a joyess family occassion therefore children should be welcome...

Failing that i would go to the football because its hard to sit at home knowing you are missing something... Also i know a couple dont get engaged every weekend but you can buy them a few pints another night, im sure they'd understand the problems that come with children.

Fred, only you know what the right decision is.

My only contribution to the dilemma is that you'll miss me and Rachel if you don't do footy. I'd go to the party  :soapy tit wank:

My relatives did that to me when I was 12. The results the next day were not very good.

Can't you take her to your Mum's yourself, spend some time with them both, nip out to the footie for a couple of hours, go back to your Mum's, and maybe get a nice meal out of it, spend a bit more time with them, get the nipper to bed and then get out for the last couple of hours of the party?

Then on Sunday you get to go around your Mum's again with a big bunch of flowers and stuff and maybe get Sunday lunch out of it.

Job done.

miss the game. games happen every week every year. your mate gets married hopefully only once. Plus a kid is more likely to be awake during the day so you can spend more time with said kid who will be asleep when you are at the party so won't even miss you.

Can you not have her Friday after work, treat her in the evening, spend Sat morning with her, go to the football - and just to the football not pubbing it, spend a few hours with her after the game and then go to the bash later in the evening thus allowing Jenna to spend time with her grandparents.

Depends how desperate you are to go to the game - if it was me I couldn't not go to the game.....but I don't have kids yet so maybe I'm ignorant of it.
