Title: The best "True story" movies.
Post by: BANGKOK RED on Monday, February 25, 2008, 17:51:01
I am sure that there are better.

But "Catch me if you can" is a good one (I am watching it now, although I can't be sure how much of the movie was down to "Artistic licence"

Also for me Leonardo shook of his "Pretty boy rep" and became a serious actor in the movie..

Anyone?

Texas Chain Saw Massacre loosely based on serial killer Ed Gein is a pretty grim one but it depends on the genre.

Goodfellas is one of the classics as is the Last King of Scotchland but Hotel Rwanda is perhaps one of the most moving that springs to mind.

I think the best True story film I have ever seen had to be Shrek. Because its got a fat ogre in it, in fact I think its based on my life story.

Aye Dazza, a damned good watch is that.

Shrek is not a true story becasue everybody knows that shrek was not scottish. Pffft

And how could I forget about star wars, I wanted to be a Jedi but I was told at the interview that the force was too strong with me. That yoda is a right cunt for that.

I wasn't that bothered about that King of Scotland jobby. It was ok, but not the speciality wonderness that it was made out to be. It had a definite lack of robots. Which are pretty much required for any film to reach heights of greatness.

Got to be Kelly's Heroes

    Classic line from Oddball.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Offered as a tag line to Bart.

Well WW II happened so it must be a true styory.

This thread has reminded me that I still haven't got around to watching Control. One day!!!!

Someone should do a film about the life of Hulk Hogan, although I suppose it would be better off to wait until he's dead just in case he does more awesome stuff. But then he wouldn't be able to play himself. It's a dilemma. Also is it possible that Hulk Hogan could continue to do awesome stuff beyond the grave? Answer = Yes.

And someone should make a film about Voytek the Soldier Bear.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/south_of_scotland/7208505.stm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voytek
Quote
He saw action at Monte Cassino before being billeted - along with about 3,000 other Polish troops - at the army camp in the Scottish Borders.

The soldiers who were stationed with him say that he was easy to get along with.

"He was just like a dog - nobody was scared of him," said Polish veteran Augustyn Karolewski, who still lives near the site of the camp.

"He liked a cigarette, he liked a bottle of beer - he drank a bottle of beer like any man."

Maybe the bear could be played by Hulk Hogan?

The Rabbit Proof Fence

Its pretty hard hitting.  It was originally a book based on the author's mother, and two other young mixed-race Aboriginal girls, who ran away from the Moore River Native Settlement, north of Perth, in order to return to their Aboriginal families, after being placed there in 1931.

It basically shows them walking miles along the Australian rabbit-proof fence to return to their community while being tracked by a white authority figure and a black tracker.

Well worth a watch.

Last King of Scotland is a shit interpretation of the book. Do yourselves a favour, skip the film and read the book.

I bought it on DVD after reading the book and was very disappointed.

Gallipoli is fantastic, most emotional war film I've seen.

As Lady says Rabbit Proof Fence is amazing, it hits home how badly the abbo's were treated by the white Australians, explains why abbo's like George Smith have such english sounding names.

There's a great 2 part drama about a US military man who goes nuts, kills his family and then blames a group of hippies, that was pretty freaky watching that as a kid - can;t remember the title though.
