I applaud this sentence, and hope it acts as an intended deterrant. Our government should do nothing to try and get him released imo. Title: Grooverider. Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 17:06:41 i think they tried to do him for porno mags too?

Do you know how little he had on him?! here here fucking ridiculous I tell thee If you go to a middle eastern country and are stupid enough to carry any drugs on you then I have no sympathy for you whatsoever if you get caught. None whatsoever. Different countries have different levels of strictness in terms of drugs. Can the bloke not get by without a joint for a few days. Hope he enjoys his career break. So if he charges £1500 per hour, how much would the prison have to pay him to dj for four years, 24/7? Title: Grooverider. Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:00:55 You are a deluded idiot. If you were caught say, speeding (as in a motor vehicle sense, not drugs) in a foreign country and it was punishable by four years in prison it would be equally ridiculous and just as much a petty crime.
Now fair enough the bloke shouldn't have had the stuff in the first place, let alone carry it through customs. But 4 years is ludicrous. He wasn't dealing, carried only a supply small enough for his own personal use and clearly wasn't trying to smuggle anything back intentionally. Title: Grooverider. Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:08:05 i agree with jan to a point.when in rome and all that.
if you are going to a place with such tight laws then you take extra care.you cannot expect the same treatment you would get here. its not about right and wrong is it? Title: Grooverider. Post by: axs on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:09:24 I agree to an extent but then look at the whole teddy incident - same principle.
Title: Grooverider. Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:12:24 Well I'm not saying he shouldn't be punished. But to 'applaud' a decision to lock him away for 4 years is silly isn't it?

Title: Grooverider. Post by: BANGKOK RED on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:13:47 I am inclined to agree with janaage.
Yes it is a very very very harsh penalty and way over the top in OUR opininons. But it is THEIR country and anybody going there should respect that. Grooverider, asides from his stupidity probably didn't deserve it but the moral of the story is: If you don't like don't go there, and if you do go there do NOTHING that you shouldn't do. Its as simple as that really. Title: Grooverider. Post by: axs on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:14:57 Quote from: "BANGKOK RED" I am inclined to agree with janaage. Post by: axs on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:20:46 British tourist Keith Brown was sentenced to four years in prison after Dubai customs officers found a 0.003g trace of cannabis stuck to his shoe.
that's fucking mental. Title: Grooverider. Post by: BANGKOK RED on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:21:08 There was a case that I vaguely remember once of a young couple (British I think) who where knicked for having sex before marriage, which IS/WAS a criminal offence by that countries law. I think that they went to prison for a bit, not sure though but if they did is wasn't for long.
But to put it into context: In the last couple of months ago I remember in Saudi Arabia (I think) that a group of men where sent to prison for gang-raping a woman. The thing is that the woman who was raped was ALSO sent to prison for beng alone with a man/men (By choice) whom she was not realated to. The point I am trying to make is that they are just as harsh on their own, so why should we expect any different just because our culture is different? Title: Grooverider. Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:22:24 after reading that, the rider got of lightly.
Title: Grooverider. Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:22:55 Nobody is expecting different, we're just disagreeing with the harshness of it.
Title: Grooverider. Post by: axs on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 23:23:40 In one of the most extreme cases, it reported a man being held after poppy seeds from a bread roll were found on his clothes.

After reading that article I now beleive that they are just being a bunch of beligerent cunts and innocent people are probably doing some rough and unfair time. I am Never going there, what if I picked up 0.003 grams of weed on my shoe from my apartment to the airport? Bearing in mind that I that I don't even fucking well smoke weed. Does that mean that I will go to prison for 4 years??? And Poppy seeds from a roll, FUCK THAT!!! And I take back what I said about groove rider, I hope that he is released as soon as possible. Title: Grooverider. Post by: Luci on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 09:13:55 I agree with Jan. Its been made very public, especially in the last few years what level of tolerence these countries have regarding drug possession.
I think hes an idiot for taking the risk knowing the penalty he'd get should he be caught. Only himself to blame. Title: Grooverider. Post by: janaage on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 09:32:17 I haven't read the links but if it does talk of cases like a tiny amount stuck to someones shoe then that is harsh and I am not defending rape victims being locked up either - completely different subject.
This DJ fella has said, he had the drugs on him but forgot they were in his trousers. In that case unlucky you dope smoking kj. If the bloke can't go to another country without a having a joint then he has a problem, and I do not think our government should waste time on trying to get him out. He pleaded guilty, case closed. Next.... Title: Grooverider. Post by: Luci on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 09:39:42 I think common sense does need to prevail at times. On the sole of someones shoe and in someones pocket is slightly different when you talk about intentional and unintentional possession.

Typical arrogant englishSeems he isn't the only one being harshly done by. Would you applaud these decisions too? The thing is though Macca that many of these people appear to be innocent. 4 years for having poppy seeds from a bread roll is a joke. And the guy with 0.03 grams of cannabis on his shoe could well have stood on somebody elses discarded spliff, withouth ever having done any drugs throughout his life. If people knowingly break the law then they have nobody else to blame but themselves, but some of those sentences simply do not serve justice. I'm just going to keep clear myself. Title: Grooverider. Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 12:13:09 The amount of British tourists that break the law abroad is too many to count. If everyone got put away for 4 years for thsoe offences nobody would travel. I'm talking about silly things like drunken public behaviour, sex in public, indecent exposure etc. Not advocating it at all, but I would sympathise for those that got a 4 year stint over an act of stupidity. If someone accidently left a miniature bottle of alcohol in their bag? Would that be different because alcohol in this country it is socially and legally acceptable?
I certainly wouldn't wish anyone to prison for a minor incident. This country or abroad. I'm not sayign he should be released or the Goverment should/n't help him. I'm just sayign I can sympathise.
