Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: red macca on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 13:37:47 Need some serious answers please. my daughter was due to have her MMR jabs around 9 months ago but me and the wife cant decide if she should have them or not as we keep getting contradictory information.
Any of you people with your heads full of knowledge have any thoughts on this? Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 13:39:01 I had it and look how I turned out :soapy tit wank:
Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: McLovin on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 13:39:39 I had it and was fine. In fact, i dont think there is any solid proof suggesting it is dangerous.
Strangely, i was offered it again 6 months ago and i have no idea why. Neither did my doc. Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: janaage on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 13:44:55 Macca, my brother in law is a doctor and my sister is a RAF nurse, their children have both had the MMR injection. Can't remember the ins and outs of their argument why they thought it was a "safe" option to do so, but do remember that what they said made sense.
If/when I have kids, I will be for giving them this protection. Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: STFCBird on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 13:50:51 Quote from: "McLovin" I had it and was fine. The research conducted in 1998 and published in the Lancet, which alledged a link between MMR vaccine and autism, has since been discreditted. Rationale includes unethical, biaised and inadequate sampling. On a personal note all my sons have been vaccinated, One son (due to being born in the wrong year) has received 4 measles, 3 rubella & 2 mumps vaccines and graduates from uni this year. In response to Mclovin`s query MMR vaccine has been offered to Mid-late teenagers recently due to concern regarding a mumps epidemic because some teenagers have only received 1 mumps vaccine and require a 2nd vaccine to ensure immunity Hope this is of assistance Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: red macca on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 09:26:17 Thanks warks

Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: Lumps on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 16:43:27 Macca,
I know this is a repetition of what everyone else has said but it's a bit of a hobby horse of mine as I used to work in Clinical Audit and Research at the time the thing first blew up. So here goes. The whole MMR/Autism scare was orginally prompted by an article in The Lancet by a single GP, arising from a very small study that he had undertaken on some of the patients within his practice (we're talking less than 100 people here to give you some idea of the scale of it). As other people have said this "research" has been almost totally discredited subsequently and the BMA have taken action against the GP concerned over the way it was conducted. Large scale pieces of research have been undertaken in Scandanavia, who introduced MMR earlier than us, studies involving hundreds of thousands of cases, and there was absolutely no evidence linking MMR to increased incidences of autism, or any other health problems. Over here the goverment has spent the last few years funding a secondary study (basically getting people to examine the results of all of the research that has been undertaken on the subject internationally) and this failed to find any research anywhere that suggested there was a problem with it. The trouble is that once a scare story like this has started it's difficult to kill off, and there are always going to be parents who's child has been diagnosed with autism that will look for something to blame it on. It doesn't help that the vaccine is usually given at around about the same time that symptoms of autism can start to present themselves. But the main fact is this simple - the rates of autism diagnosed in the populations of european countries using MMR are the same as those not using MMR. MMR does not cause autism. FACT. Whereas measles can cause blindness or in the worst cases kill a child. It's got to be your decision mate but if you decide against PLEASE make sure that you pay to get the vaccinations done as individual jabs instead. Sorry if that went on a bit but this story has always wound me right up. Probably no, the MMR campaign a few years ago targetted universitycollege aged students. You could always ask at your GP surgery but it would be at the surgery discretion to give or not to give the vaccination. STFC Lady: How do you find out how many you've had? Can you track the ones you had at school then? Your GP surgery should have a record of all the vaccinations you have received including those given at school. If not you could contact the School Health Dept at your local Primary Care Trust ( you should be able to find their contact details on their web page). All child records are kept on file until the individual is 25 years old.[b[/b] Title: Mmr Jabs Post by: red macca on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 19:52:54 warks your like reg but you know medical stuff

There was a place in old town, top of vic hill that dealt with the admin of school jabs etc. My doctor gave me their number when I needed to find out for uni what I had been vaccinated against. Don't know if it's still open but I suggest contacting your GP as they should be able to point you in the right direction. |
