Potentially better than Parkin in my eyes, but then i didn't expect Parkin to be good. I do expect Cox to be.

He's a great player though, he'll become a real asset, i just hope the 50% sell on clause and the £300k buy back clause don't come back to haunt us.

They seem to think he has put us in debt.  I don't think they're aware quite how healthy our bank balance could be.

To be fair to them, if he had signed for them, that thread could have been moved to this forum and been about us calling him a greedy cunt and being grateful we haven't broke the bank. I would also expect some stupid specualtive remarks though and a fair portion of people saying "i told you so" and other stated have we have no ambition.

It's amusing how any signing, potential or otherwise, shows the full depth of our fickle nature as football fans and how wildly people can be positive, negative and just down right fucking dumb.

Ours is much better. Theirs is a very unambitious, stuck in the third tier kind of error, whereas ours is an error that is going places.

Can we sing "We've got Cox, you've not" at them on Saturday or would that be childish?

Would have liked him here but he isnt worth £200,000+
Have no doubt in Northamptons defence and more importantly Mark Little to keep Cox from scoring. The lad who has been on loan from Wolves had been simply magnificent!
He will mark Coxy out of the game on Saturday.  :D

Im going for a 2-1 Northampton win

Want to come though! Both teams on a good run, scoring goals and with Cox on your side, Im sure he will get some stick on Sat. Hope he doesnt though, because he played his heart out when he was on loan to us. Normally bastards come in on loan and dont care how they play, because their still on good money and have a club to go back to. However Coxy werent like that. that's exactly how he played for us and stick 9 goals away in less than half a season, that's why we're a little bit orgasmic to have him back, especially given our lack of finishing prowess by our stand-in strikers.

Hope you get down Cobblers - it should be a great game. The fact that you are Northampton and not Arse, Chelski and Man U says volumes.  After our game against Hartlepool I would have been gutted not to sign Cox because he was light years ahead of anything on the pitch.  There's
so many of us that need a hooray about this, cos we've had some pretty shite years of late.

Is Crowe the one that got released by Posh?

Just two question, Parkin scored a shit load of goals for us.

Why did you let him go?

Cox scored 8 in 18 for us.

Wh did you let him go?

I don't want Paynter to leave but I thought Corr and Cox were splendid over the festive period, and Paynter - who I still think is an excellent signing - has been nothing short of fucking dreadful recently.

As we now have Cox, Corr, Paynter and Moses, all of which are quality strikers, does that now mean we never have to soil another Swindon shirt by placing it on the back of Sturrock?
Perhaps we could do some work for charity and donate him to our yellow friends down the road, I'm sure he'd fit in well at thier level.

How is Moses quality, he's played less than 2 hours football for us? Sturrocks been the best of a poor performing bunch up front in the last few games.

I'm discovering what it's like to be a proper football fan again.  Instead of camping out on the Management forum discussing due diligence, we're talking about football again and signing players.  Love it.

I hope Simon Cox has as positive an impact as the last (I think) striker we signed from Reading...although I hope he stays longer than Maskell did.  (Soccerbase reckons he only scored 10 goals for us though, which surprised me.)

Soccerbase is wrong then, Maskell scored more than 10 goals for us, definitely - I think - now I'm not so sure.

As for any clause about not playing Reading, those kind of rules are against FIFA rules, I think you can stipulate that agreement in the same season, as a gentleman's agreement but not long term.

Reading Fans Comments:

Quote
Swindon must be laughing at our valuation of Cox.
If cox was their player who had scored 9 in 18 or whatever his record, at the young age of 20/21, and we wanted to buy him they would ask in excess of a million pounds. 200k is a steal and i can only hope that we have a hefty sell on clause and first option on him.

Quote
According to Swindon sources looks like Cox will sign for £200K tonight.

I am really disappointed by this. I thought that he played superbly in the second half against Spurs. I don't wholly blame Reading for this as the current system gives all power to the players - presumably he has refused to sign an extended contract and we have little choice but to let him go.

I would have thought it would have been much better for him to have signed on with Reading and then continued with his loan to Swindon but he seemed adamant that he wanted to commit to a new club and wanted first team football every week.

This does make a bit of a mockery of the whole Academy system - just as we develop a player with some potential we lose him. I believe he will go on to play in the PL.

Quote
Simon don't be a COX and join that team of scumbags !!!!

Your apparently a Reading fan so join swindon Supermarine instead just to wind them up ! They are likely and hopefully going to go bust in the next year anyway. Northamptons much nicer

Boo Swindon, Boo !!!!

Just look what the Red Filth did for Curetons careers, don't do it !!!!!  :soapy tit wank:

Quote
FFS! What is Cox's problem?

Taking too long to adjust to the English game?
Can't speak English?
Injured?
Or is it just that he's not on your list of favourites?????

Jesus H Christ - would he have stood a better chance if he'd changed his name to, oh I don't know ..... John Oster????

In the 45 mins v Spurs he displayed more skill, enthusiasm and desire than Oster has in his entire RFC career, AND more than Boby Convey has done this season.

Quote
I'd have been less pissed off if we'd sold Long or Lita.

Lets face it, If Long went on loan to Swindon and came back with the scoring record Cox had, Coppell would have lost the sight in one eye through over-masterbation.

would anyone like to mention to the reading fans that one of our backers is the co-founder and non-exec chairman of betfair, a company worth £15bn?

This is fucking ace, it just doesn't seem right that people think we're cunts for being able to afford higher wages than them  8)

Can someone PLEASE tell Reading our backers are richer than theirs? Knowing that fills me with pride. I resent those fucking plastic cunts that fill me with envy.

I wonder whether it'd be worthwhile experimenting with coxy and sticking him in central midfield as the attacking mid?

Afterall he can play across the whole of midfiled, he doesn't lack agression or energy and we know he can pass?

We could then have Corr and Paynter up front, as we know Paynter is not a targetman, but prefers to play off one. Just an idea, although perhaps a waste of Cox's abilities.
