What a performance. Easton was absolutely awesome. Sturrock was superb. The back 4 were all excellent. We played some brilliant football on the ground. JPM put in a really good performance - the first I've seen from him.
How the hell the score was 2-1 was beyond me. If it had been 5-0 Forest could not have complained. They were absolute bollox. Their pillock of a substitute was extremely lucky - what a complete nobhead.
Oh and the Minge was lucky to stay on the pitch. Fair play to him thuogh - got a couple of really good digs in.

Post by: Nemo on Saturday, January 19, 2008, 17:49:26
Sturrocks shot that went past the goalkeeper stopped in a puddle and he was warming up behind the goal, doing starjumps. The idiot then decided to turn round and start giving it large to the Town End, cue at least 50 people running to the front and going for him.

Could have been very, very nasty. 2000 people 10 feet and 10 stewards away. Stupid, stupid thing to do.

Title: swindon v nottingham forest
Post by: DiV on Saturday, January 19, 2008, 17:50:25
totally deserved the luck we got today.

Everyone was superb.

Forest couldnt defend against Billy Paynters power and Blair Sturrock running into the channels. Importantly once Blair drops into the channels our midfield is getting into the box to make up the numbers.

Paynter and Sturrock up front played very well and both deserved a goal today....Paynter had one ruled out (gay!!) and Sturrocks got stopped by the weather

Also, at the end....Tyson was about 2 yarda ahead of Vincent and Tyson isnt fucking slow.....how Vincent got that tackle in I dont know.....that tackle was just important as the other two goals today.

I thought the wings were particularly good, I think Comminges put in more good crosses today than Shakes did in his career.

Title: swindon v nottingham forest
Post by: lebowski on Saturday, January 19, 2008, 17:52:55

Agree with everything said on here. We dominated from start to finish, but we should have won by more. We've now played the top two at home over the last few weeks, and I've got to say, they've been no more than average. That Forest sub was an absolute prick.

Sturrock had his best game in a Town shirt, and Wes Morgan is crap.

I think Tyson's should be in trouble with the FA after his verbals at the ref at the final whistle. Got to say that the ref had a good game.

Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, January 19, 2008, 20:32:32
Quote

On a biting Wiltshire day, where the apparently harmless rain poured relentlessly on to devour even the most hardy of the away supporters' souls, Forest came out distinctly second best against a Swindon side who displayed admirable levels of determination and dynamism given the atrocious weather conditions that eventually warped the pitch until it was a quagmire.

During the first half, Swindon took advantage of the prevailing wind that pushed them on towards the away supporters, and peppered the Forest box with crosses, long balls and set-pieces, mixing them in between with some good build-up play, whilst taking advantage of Forest's poor full-backs to pressure Morgan and Breckin who generally stood tall.

Though they seemed to carry little threat, a goal was inevitable, be it from a corner, cross or free-kick, whilst we allowed such heavy pressure and withdrew into an introverted mode, and the goal did come close to half-time when a free kick on the left wing, near the edge of the box, was swung in, and despite being relatively alone, James Perch diverted into his own net.

An admirable home crowd had roared Swindon on to an opener, and it's important to point out that Swindon completely overwhelmed us on and off the pitch – their fans put ours to shame with a vocal showing that would be totally out of place at The City Ground, and for this alone their fans deserved to be going home on the back of an excellent victory.

It's perhaps unfair of me to condemn the unusually quiet away crowd, who were, after all, largely plagued by the awful weather conditions in between witnessing a pitifully poor away performance, devoid of quality or passion, devoid of a game-plan and also at times, apparently, of quality too. We were essentially negative minded in contrast to Swindon and paid the price.

We probably had two opportunities of note throughout the match. First, came our goal. After our only passing move of the match we won a corner, which the poor, anonymous Davies curled in well, Chambers headed in. Late in the game, Tyson raced down the right wing and cut inside, beating his marker, and was blatantly fouled. Really, it was a stone-wall penalty, but the assistant “bottled it”, as one might say.

In between our goal and the apparent penalty, Swindon dominated, once again roared on by the home crowd, pressuring high up the field and accounting for the wind in their face with some good football that was often hampered by the poor pitch. Their pressure was relentless at times, and though Breckin headed past Smith from a right-wing cross after a flowing move, the Swindon pressure accounted for it, and our centre-halves played reasonably well throughout.

Anyway, I'm disappointed. Calderwood stuck with a winning team and was comfortably undone by his own stubbornness. Both full-backs had a 'mare, the midfield was non-existent without the commanding presence of either Clingan or Lennon, and Grant Holt reverted to the usual after a good performance last week. Tyson came on and was bright, but we are short of fire-power, and are short of common sense regarding team selection.

Calderwood...well, I'm not at all happy with him. I think he's holding the team back in the most basic of ways – in picking the wrong players in the wrong positions. He has other faults, but hell, if he starts well he might at least go on well.

Really enjoyed the game today.
Even though I have slated Blair Sturrock in the past I thought he played really well today.
Peacock and Easton immense in midfield.
The Town End support especially when Forest equalised well I take my hat off to you, brilliant you were the twelve man today.
A special mention for the ref, Mr M Thorpe, without doub the best referee I've seen at CG for many years.
Good game, great value for money, bring it on, cant wait for the next game.

i thought blair held the ball up well and never stopped working. when moses came on for blair, i thought we struggled to retain possession a little.

everyone was superb today. forest were less than impressive but we were all over them in the first half. i suppose it's a little disappointing that despite our domination we couldn't score.

the pitch was in surprisingly good condition too.

I fucking loved it today.

Easton and Peacock superb. Our wingers finally put some work in. Made the team second in the table look ordinary... what more can you ask for?

No complaints at all, only that I thought Smith in goal for them, like Ince last week, showed Brez's kicking and decision making up.

Oh and that was a stonewall penalty, it was great to see all the midland-bastards get all upset when it wasn't given  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

maybe but that was the time of the game when forest were throwing everything at us and they had their own player of real class, tyson, causing a bit of havoc

moses is an absolute unit, quick, looks to have settled in well and is even cockier than cox. he's got it all for us right now.

i don't want to disappear into dreamland but an ashikodi-cox partnership come february would be simply untouchable.

and given paynter and sturrock's workrate today it's boding well

need a more creative midlfielder to play along easton to really break into the top 4 or 5, as hard as peacock obviously battles

Nothing to add to what everyones said -  we were great. But one thing stood out today - how important it is in this division to have a centre mid who's strong in the air - Super Lee won so much today and that got us going - its not an attribute you'd normally look for in a central midfielder, but jesus he's playing well right now

From Vital Forrest:

The weather conditions at the County ground were truly awful today, but that was the case for both sides and hopefully Forest will not be offering this as an excuse for another sorry performance away from home.

Two own goals were to be one reason for the Reds downfall, but we should take nothing away from what sounded like a spirited Swindon performance. It was a game the home side dominated from start to finish and one they thoroughly deserved to win.

Forest went in at half time only the one goal behind after Perch headed into his own net 10 mins from the interval. You hoped that Forest would come out for the second half with the bit between their teeth, but it was more of the same as the home side once again took control of the game.

We did pull one back through Luke Chambers, as he headed in from the far post. It has to be said that even the equaliser came against the run of play with the home side still causing us problems. Forest just couldn't get the ball out of their own half. Bennett was booked whilst warming up, to add to the misery and Grant Holt picked up the same for a belt he received to the face.

Swindon regained their lead when another good cross by McGovern was headed in for the second own goal of the game, this time by Breckin. Although Tyson had what sounded like a good penalty shout turned down, anything other than victory for the home side would have been a travesty.

Our away form is now real cause for concern. It's now 9 games since a win on our travels and if we are to gain promotion then this has to change. Forest are away again on Wednesday night, this time to struggling Millwall. All of a sudden, that has become a must win game.

Teams:

Swindon: Brezovan, Comminges, Vincent, Ifil, Aljofree, McGovern, Peacock, Easton, Zaaboub, Paynter, Sturrock (Ashikodi 79).
Subs Not Used: Roberts, Nicholas, Pook, McNamee.

Booked: Comminges, Ashikodi.

Goals: Perch 35 og, Breckin 82 og.

Forest: Smith, Chambers, Lockwood (Wilson 83), Morgan, Breckin, Perch, McGugan, Cohen, Commons (Tyson 54), Davies, Holt.
Subs Not Used: Roberts, Lennon, Bennett.

Booked: Bennett, Holt, Tyson.

Goals: Chambers 63.

Att: 9,815

Reading Forest forums they are so fucking up themselves they are calling for CC to be sacked!

Heres a few quotes

Quote

I'm usually optimistic, and I'm not writing our chances off. But that was RUBBISH. Why the hell are we losing to teams like Swindom Town. I don't give a f**k whether we're at home or away or what the conditions are like, there are no excuses for these all too regular pathetic away performances. If we don't start winning away soon, we're going to be in serious trouble. How can the game be so different away from home than at the City Ground?

Quote

Swindon....shit ground...shit team....we should be easily stuffing these sort of lower league teams

Quote

Swindon were rubbish we were worse

Quote

We scored all the goals?  Two own goals? Perch got the first for Swindon and then who got the winner?
Is this right?
We have begun winning the game for other teams

Quote
This is exactly what I feared after last week. We looked like we could win comfortably without playing too well and then we follow that up with a shocker
.

Quote

maybe I'm fickle, maybe I'm jumping the gun - but today sounded, from what I heard, Unacceptable.

one good quote.......

Quote

Many Forest fans still have their heads up their rectums.

We are no longer able to compete with big clubs like Carlisle and Swansea.

Yeovil destroyed us in the play-offs last season.

Bigger clubs like Orient and Doncaster have more financial clout.

Lets stop moaning about the plight of the club and just accept what we are.

An average third tier club with an average fan base and very average ownership.

Just enjoy the footie and stop moaning.

Quote

Message to Calderwood: Sign  a striker, or sign your letter of resignation, because by time Agogo's back, automatic promotion will be long gone.
I really can't be arsed to say anymore, apart from as god as my witness, I will NEVER go to Swindon again.

Quote

Having had to watch Swindon a few times this year in my capacity as a scout.

If we can not beat this shower of s**t I hold no great hope for the future.

Weve been guilty of the exact same thing. When we went 1-0 down away at Accrington everyone was saying, what the fuck is going on, this is so shit. When actually Accrington had played alright and we hadnt got ourselves up for it. Its the XI you put on the pitch that matters, and you have to proove yourself everywhere at every ground. Old Trafford or Moss road.

Forest are a big, famous, prestigious club. And we played them off the park. Some of their criticism of Calderwood does look OTT to me, but apparently they are getting a bit sick of playing crap away.

Anyway, we battered them. Cant wait to get up there and take the 6 points off them. That would truly avenge the 7-1 and let them know we are no mugs.

What a great game. Our players were brilliant. Fantastic.

Lets hope we dont have to rely on own goals for the next match.

Recently it has been Corr or Cox hitting the back of the net for us.

No one deserves to be dropped from the last game, but that doesn't mean changes can't be made.

Paynter can't buy a goal either at present, he must play Corr and I think he will.

Just watched the highlights and to be fair to Paynter, had neither of the OG's gone in he was in a great place just to knock it in himself. Add to that the couple of chances where he came close and he didn't do too badly. It would be tempting to bring Corr in for Sturrock but it sounds like the Jock had a good game on Saturday so I'll be happy either way.

Disagree, team morale looks to be high, the fans are even getting behind Blair. Finishing wasn't amazing but there were efforts that got stuck in the mud on the goal-mouths.

How demoralising would it be to learn a couple of decent displays reward you with a place on the bench.

You can always bring Corr on 20mins from time if nothing is happening anyway. The moment you start putting Corr's name down on the team sheet first is the moment you get a complacent player who doesn't try as hard.

Corr shouldnt walk straight back into the team. Sure he was on form before he his ban but maybe if he has to spend some time on the bench he'll think twice before being a petulant twat.

With the great way Comminges and JP overlap, i wonder if we could move Zaaboub to LB, where i think he looks good, and stick McNamee on the left wing?

I think teams would shit their pants with wingers and overlapping fullbacks like that. Even more so if Roberts came on for JP for the final 20 minutes. The opposition fullbacks would wish they'd stayed at home.

....but that removes Vincent from the team and he's been solid in defence and when he was injured we clearly missed him.

Spot on DV, Vincent is vital to the teams shape, I can't believe anyone would even think about dropping the bloke.

he doesnt get forward as often as Commingues.....but if you had both of them doing it you'd leave massive gaps....

Plus, sitting in the Nationwide, when we are going towards the Town End you can always hear Vincent shouting. He commands the back line. He's a communictor and with him out the side we dont have one.

I don't think I've ever agreed with Mr V so much.  I see/hear exactly the same thing when he's on the arkells side, communication is key at the back and JV is our most vocal defender, Hasney second, Ifil and Miguel not so much - but that's not a problem.

Without Vincent we struggle at the back.  Where's OST when you need a "FACT"?

Looking back if we hadnt of moved him into centre back when Williams got injured last season we probably wouldnt have even got promoted!
