Title: Cox bid made!
Post by: SWINRICH on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 10:12:42
Heard on BBC Radio Swindon that an offer for Cox has been made by Fitton and we are waiting for a response from Reading.

Fingers crossed they will sell him as he couldn't even come off the bench Saturday for Reading even though someo f the rest of their players couldn't give two s***ts about the FA cup!

If we did actually sign Cox, because he was on the bench and didnt come on would he be cup tied in the FA Cup for us?

Dont think so, I think they have to actually play to get cup tied

Yep, unused substitute doesn't count apparently. Does in Scotland though, weird.

When (what year) was the only time the FA waived the "cup tie" rule and why?

No looking it up either!!

Absolutely no idea! sounds interesting though.

Must have been a while back in the 50's or 60's though as I dont remember it in my lifetime, could well be wrong though!

Can't remember the year (1960?), but it was after the Munich air crash because Man Utd didn't have enough eligible players to field.

1958 then?

1958, after the Munich crash is riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!!!

I think they signed a couple of Sheff Wed players who had already played in the cup but the FA waived the rule.

50th Anniversary this year, I believe Utd are wearing a special 50's style kit (no sponsors) for the match that takes places on (or near) the actual date.

Indeed you're correct Jan the man. A commemorative kit for the derby against city. No sponsors, no names, numbers 1-11.

I have a lot of time for the story of Munich.  Really saddens me to see fans like Leeds take the piss out of such a terrible event.

I think it's an age thing but to think that a bunch of young lads (and some slightly older people) lost their lives that night and years on scum think it's a funny idea to sing about it really angers me.

We can make as many bids as we like - but the transfers will not go through til the embargo is lifted

Has the transfer embargo been lifted then?

and more importantly, has the takeover been completed then?

otherwise whose money are we using to bid with?

I think Fitton has decided the takeover WILL go through and also recognises the relatively short period we have to act in the transfer window, which is why he has announced Malpas as manager and is prepared to get the chequebook out.
