Unless the tie up the Cox transfer PDQ.

Although I can't see that happening myself until we have a permanent manager in place.

Not neccessarilly, I don't think that too many managers would be upset with Fitton if he was to buy Cox as a welcome present.

Why's he not the long term solution then? I accept that Fitton has stated that they want an experienced manager but if the players keep churning out performances like that I don't think Fitton will bring some one in from outside just for the hell of it.

Because it's only 2 weeks ago that we had that terrible performance against Brighton and everyone wanted him out immediately. It's no coincidence that our performances have been better since the takeover was announced, so some of it must be credited to that, Fairplay to him, though, he's done well in an emergency situation. And as I type this, Byrne himself is saying exactly the same thing on RS!!

I got to say the back four was immense, along with Peacock, Easton and Brez.

Cox burying that pen after all their time-wasting tactics, proves the guy's got balls, especially afterhe worked his arse off all game.

It was in, then it wasn't. World class save.

The pen was soft, however the man took cox and not the ball. That's the risk you take.

It was a fantastic effort  - a true 100% effort that every Town player and fan can be proud of.

That said, if Corr retaliated he is a dick, mind you he has looked a bit tetchy in recent games so maybe he was an accident waiting to happen.

Zaaboub should be fined for his hissey fit too. It is dissapointing to  be sacraficed after the sending off, but we had to go more solid. Plus he is a frustration. He has the skill, but ends up looking very ordinary.

Cox was excellent, we'll miss his workrate and movement along with the goals.

Cominges had a good game too. Well everyone did really.

Comminges was outstanding today IMO, would be my man of the match.

The effort showed from everyone today was fucking superb. The way our fans reacted after Swansea scored, standing up and roaring the team on summed up the spirit today. A fully deserved point and I won't let anyone tell me otherwise.

WOW

Like fred kept saying, that felt like a win.

Do go down to ten men and play like that we did not deserve to loose.
Only untill the last 15 min did it actauly show that we were playing with ten men.
Brez's save was world class, everyone thought it was in.
The back 4 were immense. Minge had butler in the palm of his hand all game,
Peaks worked his bollocks off today, fair play to him.
Paynter had a chance to prove himself today but didn't didint seem to give a shit most of the time.
As for someone saying zaboub acting like a twat being subbed, fair play to him, i would do to.
Though it was quite ironic zaboub rushing corr off the pitch when he got sent off.
One of the best games i have seen in the long time.

Top stuff, the lads shuold be proud.

Not sure of the formation at the end tho.
From what i gather looked something like this.

Aljofre seemed to take up a load striker role for the last 10 min, with Kaid, doing a lot of defending on the left. JV pushed into the middle with Jerel.
Paynter was playing CM. Coxy on the left and Pook playing just behind aljofre.
Crazy

Why's he not the long term solution then? I accept that Fitton has stated that they want an experienced manager but if the players keep churning out performances like that I don't think Fitton will bring some one in from outside just for the hell of it.

too big a risk. He's got Sturrocks squad playing well, but can he take it to the next level? Maybe, maybe not, as I say, too risky.

It's nothing personal against him.

Top result after the ref did his best to ruin what could have been a good match. The fact neither their fans nor players appealed for the Corr red card suggests it was something of nothing.

Most relieved man on that pitch must be Kaid Mohammed though absolutely useless get rid in January please. After 70 minutes of backs to the wall defending he almost ruins it when he loses the ball just outside the box (again). He was a liability waiting to happen all the time he was on and if the Zaaboub haters see him as an alternative they need their heads examining.

MOM was probably shared between the back four and Brez as they did a top job ...all 5 of them.

Incredible today. I have to say, when Swansea scored I felt like it was over and gave up. Fair play to the fans who didn't.

Very impressed with the teams performance today though, we got what we deserved. And hearing Cox say afterwards that he'd be 'over the moon' to sign for us, well, its fantastic. Lets hope he's back, and soon!

there were so many players that were MOM contenders today. Real proud of the lads today and our fans were top class. If we worked that hard every game (with 11 players) we could easily be in the playoffs.

That was the best game I've seen in a long time. Superb save from Brez. Coolness personified by Cox after the delay in taking the penalty. The Minge was absolutely superb as were the other 3 in defence. The only players I was dissapointed with were Paynter who really is out of both form and fitness and Mohammed who is totally clueless.

That sort of brilliant behaviour still goes on now days lads, you ever go with the SAGA lot now?

Today I got the buzz for STFC back, its amazing what a few great results and a takeover can do to you.  That penalty meant so much, what a performance by all 11 playres, even more so the 10 aftr Bazza was senbt off.  We battered the welsh which I personally loved

Sounds like a great game today and credit to hte lads for battling hard. I would gladly have taken a draw before the game so to do it with ten men is even better.

Shame about Corr as we'll be weak up front for a bit now. Atleast one of the games is against Barnet. Sturrock might be able to score against them. Maybe.

What i loved though was that for probably the first time since i've been watching swindon the whole crowd didn't turn on the team once. I was really impressed by our fans, When swansea scored you could see how gutted the players were and ALL the fans gave Swindon a standing ovation and started singing their hearts out. What a cracking atmosphere towards the end. I don't think i've ever seen a crowd be so delighted with a point, we had 10 men and gave the team who is top a hell of a game. They worked their bollocks off. What a great advertisement for STFC. WE TRULY HAVE GOT OUR SWINDON BACK.

Because he's in love with you.

Maybe you should write to the club and he requests he read the oppositions teamsheet slower?

Having said that though, Hartlepool away last season.. Their announcer took a fucking age to read both teams, there was about a 5 second gap between the number and the player.

I agree with Christy, I also hate the fact he doesn't say good afternoon to the away fans when he goes around the other 3 sides of the ground pre kick off.

He should start off by saying good afternoon to the away fans then do his usual Arkells, South and Town End stuff.

To be honest ive never had ANY trouble in hearing any of the announcements, even when if it is read out fast. And several clubs across the country put lots of emphasis on the home teams sheet, and get through the away teams quickly because the home fans dont care...its very much a panto feature.

And to be honest, if you are going to base one of the features of having a good football day out on the speed, audio quality of the team sheet reading out before the match, maybe you should concentrate on the match a bit more? Yesterday i would have been happy with a 0-0...i thought the peformance was fantastic, then even going 1-0  down, the way the fans got behind the players was the best ive seen all this season (as a season ticket holder and after going to over half towns away games this year). So, is the HUGE event of reading the teamsheet really that important to you Christy??

Title: Swindon V Swansea Matchday Thread.
Post by: Christy on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, 12:44:47
Swindonbob, I'm up for a bit of panto as much as the next half witted cross-dressed man.  The teamsheet reading really isn't a H U G E event for me.

It is though another minor opportunity (like opening the superstore beyond 2.45pm, like getting a coffee in less than 20 minutes etc etc) to improve the matchday experience, tossy as that sounds. Get the small things right and you're halfway there.

Of course that's all secondary to what happens on the pitch.  A successful team will drag the punters back, and that can also be achieved with a less successful team given some new ideas and creative thinking.  Interesting times ahead, I hope.

Title: Swindon V Swansea Matchday Thread.
Post by: janaage on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, 12:58:16
Why open the shop after 2.45pm on a matchday? The staff should be able to go and take their seats at that time. If supporters cannot be arsed to get themselves to the shop by then, then tough. Why should the people who work for the club miss out on the match due to your bad time keeping?
