You'll need something to dump the image onto the HD in the case of the PS3. Don't ask me how it all works, I gave up buying consoles a long time ago :D Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: JPC82 on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 21:42:01 whats a modchip :?
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 21:44:03 A chip that modifies the computer's software so it lets you play copied cames AKA a modchip.
I haven't done it since the days of PS1 mind, so I can't shed any further light into it now. Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 21:44:46 Also for the benefits of anyone thinking of this...it's highly illegal and invalidates your warranty
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: JPC82 on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 21:45:18 ok mate thanks for your help, ill go google the bastard
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 21:47:51 Some sort of warranty invalidating moddage. Which isn't as simple as it was back in the old PSone days.
What with firmware / software OS upgrades happening if you ever want to use it on tinternet, I'd imagine the whole thing could be a bit risky. I know Microsoft will ban you from XBox live if they catch you playing dodgy copy's of stuff. You can probably do google searches which will have better answers than me. Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 21:48:53 crap. I knew I should have hit submit before I went for a pis.

It definately won't be the case of just downloading a game and burning it to a dvd. Sorry. Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 22:03:32 It looks like a 'wiikey' is the easiest way but it still involves solder.
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: JPC82 on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 22:10:42 ok thanks for the help you two
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: axs on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:08:23 i think all modchips involve soldering, they did on the PS1 and xbox anyway. trick is to have a mate who knows what he's doing. not that i do of course.
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:31:36 I remember there were other ways of doing it....ps2 you could use swap disc and xbox they made one you didnt have to solder (dunno how but my mate had it).
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:36:10 Think there was a ps1 non soldering thing eventually.
Got a feeling that the dreamcast has fuck all protection but the dreamcast discs are a bit different than cd's and hold more. It'll play copied cd's but as they can't hold as much so you have to play silly buggers and compress video and stuff on bigger games. Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: sonic youth on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:41:59 dreamcasts were ace
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: Berniman on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:43:39 PS3 and Wii both involve soldering!
Not worth doing until your warranty has run out! Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: Arriba on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:45:03 i toyed with the idea of getting my ps1 and ps2 chipped back in the day.but friends who had theirs done had loads of problems with them.

Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: JPC82 on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:51:41 i still play the SNES 8)
Title: Question About Wii & PS3 Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, December 30, 2007, 23:52:26 I'd love to have a chipped ps1, think someone offered me one in a thread ages ago but I never got around to sorting it.
Top of my wish list at the moment would be an Atari Jaguar with a copy of Tempest 2000. Which is possibly the greatest non-heard of game ever. Bit of a fan of Jeff Minters stuff. He's a bit of a nutter. Llamatron was awesome, especially if you play it with a dual stick controller.
