I'm too "12th in the league" to be buzzing.  And I just heard King on the radio, fuck me that's enough to put me in a bad mood.

I don't consider Reading a rival at all really. Just Oxford and City for me.  And Brighton now.  I think i will always hate them.

I'm with Dave, never really seen Reading as a local rival.  City and Oxford yes, they're the two biggies.  Brizzle Rovers were always like an irritating little brother that deep down you don't really mind that much.  But I think that's because I depise City so much and have a respect for the Gas hating City too.

No there was some survey done in a footie mag, where football fans had to list their top three hated sides.  Swindon came out on top apparently.  We happen to be in a lot of sides top three's.  Plymouth, Oxford, Reading, City, Rovers, Bournemouth, Gills and others.

We haven't done a double over Shitty since 1948/49.........they really will have had to gone into a rapid decline under Tinman,  for our lot to manage it.

I hated Bristhole before we even played O*frod for the first time.

That's a fantastic write up on the Swindon v Gillingham games from 1979 on the Gills website. I didn't start actively following the club until a couple of years after that so my recollection of that time is a bit foggy.  I love these bits:

"There was a crowd of over 15,000 and the locals were up for it."

"the crowd were to prove again to be one of the most nasty and vicious in football."

"Swindon started to dish it out as well, and Ken Price got flattened by Stroud,"

"for the rest of the game we were swore at, intimidated, physically threatened on several occasions, and had to take our team being called every name under the sun"

I don't advocate violence or threats or any kind of nastiness but all of the above is about passion and caring, two qualities sadly lacking at the County Ground in recent times.  I certainly do remember those five games from 86-87 though and they were awesome, especially the three play off games (I know a pub in Gillingham  got totally trashed before/after the away leg).  Again, those times were all about passion and caring about the club.  I'm not saying people today don't care but anyone who was around then will, I am sure will know what I mean.  There's just something really lacking at the Club these days which is highlighted by those articles.

I really enjoyed reading that.  It's just the tonic for these 'post-Walsall we're going nowhere any time soon and we're going to struggle to put a side out next season' times.

I honestly don't care about Reading, as far as I'm concerned Oxford are our only rivals. City only exist for derby games when we can't play Oxford...

I would have said Man Utd are the most hated club!!

For pure thug fans, Cardiff, Chelsea, Stoke and Millwall win.

The Utd thing is only because of how succesful they've been recently.  IN a few years when they go through the phase Liverpool have been in over the last 10 years poeple's hatred for the Manc's will diminsh - no doubt about it.

It's their fans which make them worse than City, pure thuggish scum.
