my norton subscription runs out tommorow and i dont really want to shell out any dosh.
is there a decent free anti virus programme available(avg or something?)
or should i just pay for the norton?i do a fair bit of online shopping and dont want any virus attacks ect

AVG is good but sometimes conflicts with my BB

I use anti - vir and I have a major problem with it at the moment where I cannot remove a trojan, so probably not the best one to recommend.

I would plump for AVG being probably best of the free ones

avoid symantec/norton like the plague, there are better and cheaper options out there.

AVG is good but basic, i recommend NOD32 (http://www.eset.com/).

you can't just rely on anti-virus software, make sure you use something like ad-aware, ccleaner or s&d spybot

I use AVG, never had a problem, to date. I use all the other three that sonic suggests as well. All free.

not sure, it should...it wouldn't be worth  a jot if it didn't.

i know NOD32 scans all incoming and outgoing email.

I use Zonealarm and it seems to do the trick, although only the firewall version is free unless you know how to get hold of the full version without paying.

mmm never heard of quickheal, it appears to be Indian? a bit expensive at $52 but very interesting.

I swear by what a lot of people dont...I always instaall Norton Internet Security 2007, which includes all virus protection, anti spam etc and from the right sources can be bought for as littl as £10 for a year and thats a licence for up to 3 different PC's. I have never ever had a virus attck me with it installed and only experienced 2 viruses on PC's I have had support for out of well over 100 installations and that was because they deactived the guard!
