anyone got some tips and pointers?

i've got one tomorrow but at the moment i sound like a five year old with a cold which really isn't a promising start :(

Just be yourself, no point in lying about anything as you will have to live with it for as long as your in your job, if u get it

Lots of coffee/crack beforehand and remember you're better than those losers on Jeremy Kyle. Jobs a good'un fella.

(stay calm, know a bit of background about the company, have a couple of questions to ask)

Apologies for the serious reply but:

The main thing that the want to hear is that you sound enthusiastic and comfortable on the phone.

When I was interviewing once for tele-sales jobs, the chappie on the other end of the line asked:

"Do you mind if you could interview me face to face, because I don't really feel comfortable talking over the phone"

Needless to say, I didn't give him the job.

Be enthusiastic and believe in what you are saying, try not to say "ummm, ahhh, obviously" things like that because to the interviewer its not obvious and you don't sound confident like you believe in what you are saying.

Also be clear and if possible give examples.

Make sure you are in a room without background distractions and keep a paper and pen with you to make notes as sometimes they will ask questions for you to work out over the phone to try and catch you out.

I have never failed a telephone interview, mind you only had about 4 but still.

Finally be yourself and dont ramble on (like this post)

don't say hmmmmmmmmmm and don't lie. many telephone interviews are outscoured to companys who are speacilst at it (i know cos i looked into it for my compnay) and these firms use coputer software to measusre your voice and they can work out if you are telling pokies. It is the same software used by mot insusers to check if you are a kying cunt! however you can get round it by lying to simple question like whats the time etc so you fool the software however it takes a while to learn how to lie but as i do it for a living i'm ace at it just ask my missus she still thingks she's the only one ha h ha and that i don't do drugs anymore :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

am doing a bit of research on the company now, this role is what i've been looking for and i'll probably be the worst candidate on paper.

You sounded good when you were on the radio Sonic, so I guess you'll come across as equally articulate for a telephone interview.

that was a bit like telling passengers in the departures lounge at Heathrow that you hope the plane doesn't drop from the sky and explode on connection with a field full of nails in Kent.

I got through one the other day -  onto the selection centre.
My advice is to make a list of potential questions they may ask you (based on other applications you may have done), and your answer to these questions, which will then prove invaluable as some sort of script you can adapt to what they are asking you.

As an asside my interview, I feel, was undertaken by a typist who asked questions off the computer and typed my answers but had no knowledge of either the questions or the ansers I was giving, her typing in the background was annoying

I had one of these, I thought it was going to be more like an informal chat than a proper interview and it was at 9.30am so obviously I was asleep when they rang me but it wasn't too difficult, just a few questions and then they asked me to do a face to face interview. I got the job anyway.

must have gone well as i've got a proper interview on friday - technical test then an hour long interview 8)
