Title: 4-5-1
Post by: Sippo on Monday, April 11, 2005, 12:42:55
I maybe being a dumbass, but a few months ago wasn't King praising this formation and realting to Everton. Saying how great it was and isn't a defensive tactic.

Yet after the game on sat, he was slating it saying Walsall played it to get a point. I'm confused.

We played an attacking 4-5-1 when we used it, Walsall were a lot more defensive.

Walsall played it well you mean.  They looked solid and threatening at the same time.  Whereas we looked toothless and weak.

For me the defensive form of 4-5-1 works if you aren't going to make mistakes, which we do.  It was very effective I felt against Bournemouth with O'Hanlon in midfield.

Our team cannot play 4-5-1 as:
1).  We make mistakes, and you are never going to get many goals in a defensive form
2).  We don't have proper wingers to get forward and support Parkin
3).  Roberts is a striker and will get peed off if he is kept playing on the right.  He is far more effective at the sharp end of things

The worst part of the kingy 4-5-1 to me is the pained look on Parkins face just after being beaten to another long Heywood punt by 2 central defenders.

You can see it in his face - "why do I bother? Even if I won that ball, theres no team-mate within 20 metres of me"

Its either that or another tuft of his hair has just fallen out.  :)

I think 4-3-3 against City would surprise them, and lets be honest they don't have much at the back. SSP Fallon and Caton for me!

The one flaw in your argument is that it leaves us with no strikers on the bench.  4-3-3 would not work imo - need to stick with 4-4-2 and stopping pissing around with it.
