Based around a true story of a hotel manager in Kigali during the 1994 genocide, and his attempt to save the refugees who had fled there. It's a true inditement of the west's indifference towards anywhere that has no wealth to offer us. The most poignant moment for me is when the lead character says to a british journalist that the world will have to intervene now they have seen pictures of the massacre, and the journalist tells him people will say 'Oh, how awful', and then go on eating their dinner. I liked Hotel Rwanda... It's pretty simple as far as filmmaking goes ... Which is a good thing in this case. Very good acting by Cheadle. I consider myself to have a strong stomach for shocking cinema, but i had to turn away in several parts.
