Title: HDTV Post by: Sippo on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 07:55:38 Best place to get one??
Title: HDTV Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 07:57:09 I'd say Currys/Dixons.
Going to be getting one soon myself, the old telly's on the blink so I've persuaded the missus to get a plasma 8) Title: HDTV Post by: Luci on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 07:59:43 I think we got ours from Currys 42" and its ace for footy!
Title: HDTV Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 08:01:58 I've also been advised that if you get anything above 37" you should get a Plasma rather than LCD.
LCD picture quality gets worse the bigger the screen is. Although, a Plasma will probably only last 3 years. Title: HDTV Post by: Sippo on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 08:09:00 I don't want to spend more than approx £500. Is that possible. About 28" or 32".
Title: HDTV Post by: Batch on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 08:17:00 You'll be able to find something for that, I have no opinion on what though!
As for HD, meh. Hd is quite nice but not worth the extra £10 a month I pay to sky for me. If you watch all the footy and stuff you might have a different opinion. Still ITV and C4 will be providing HD content soon, and BBC HD will move from trial to full channel status so that might up the 'free' content somewhat if I canel. www.247electrical.co.uk is really good/cheap Title: HDTV Post by: axs on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:09:35 for under £500 you should be able to get a 32" Samsung LCD.
Title: HDTV Post by: Sippo on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:12:32 Right i'm being really thick here. LCD is better than HD/plasma? :?
I just want a tele that I can use with my xbox... Title: HDTV Post by: axs on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:14:15 LCD is HD too, assuming to you subscribe to a HD provider like SKY HD. LCD is better in smaller screens and is getting into bigger ones now but they are expensive. I have a 42" plasma and love it, i think its better for films but LCD is better for everyday viewing as they tend to be brighter (backlit).
Title: HDTV Post by: axs on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:15:02 I use a 32" samsung LCD with an xbox 360 and it works perfectly.
Title: HDTV Post by: Bushey Boy on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:15:49 My brother has a couple of these in his house, one is a plasma and one for gaming is an lcd or something as the games ruin a plasma, I think thats right but I never listen as gaming is quite sad at 28!
Title: HDTV Post by: Sippo on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:20:05 Cheers all.

Title: HDTV Post by: Stef Troll on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 12:42:46 Sony and Pinoneer make the best HDTV's
The oether producers eg Samsung are ok, but not as good imo. My mum and dad are about to get some sony 46 inch tv for £3k. Will post a link on here when i find it Title: HDTV Post by: Spud on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 14:31:40 This is mine:-
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9136/lcdtvbx2.jpg At the time the Woman in Currys told me that the best LCD TV's on the market are Samsung and LG. I asked if Sony were any good, she said that they were but as soon as they break down Sony don't want to know. Oh and don't get a Plasma as the BULB has a habit of blowing after a year or so. Title: HDTV Post by: Luci on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 14:33:35 I think Panasonic are really good from experience.
Title: HDTV Post by: axs on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 14:34:26 thats what i've got, can't fault it.

Title: HDTV Post by: Batch on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 14:43:44 Plasmas don't have bulbs. While they do have a limited lifespan and potential for screen burn things are a lot lot better now. The average user will get (IMHO) 7-10 years out of one.
A tip is to find the TV you want, in stock in any UK store of your choice (even empire direct , and other online co's have real stores). Check the John Lewis website to see if they stock the item. Ring the local store (Cribbs) and get them to price match - you may have to pay for delivery, but you get a free 5 year guarentee. Other than that, you have to work out whether you really need a full 1080 display or whether a 768 or similar will do. The advantage of the former is you get the full HD detail of 1080 lines from a HD sorce that provides it. The disadvantage is that normal TV (SD) is 540 line (or 480 NTSC) so the telly has to 'guess' the lines inbetween to make up the picture (it still displays 1080 lines, 540 'real' and 540 interpolated). Etc. Etc. Title: HDTV Post by: Spud on Thursday, October 11, 2007, 14:45:27 Quote from: "Batch" Plasmas don't have bulbs. If you don't vent the plasma regularly then the relays can go offline. If you're unlucky you could end up with a warp core breach.
