Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: genf_stfc on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 18:50:12 do you only earn no claims discount if you have had fully comp insurance, rather than third party ? it would explain why no insurance company seems particularly impressed that i have never made a claim in 9 years
Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: Fred Elliot on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 18:51:49 No...................NCD applies to all policies genf

Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: genf_stfc on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 19:32:35 this could have been my problem - i've had insurance since 1998 and never claimed, but having just dug out all my old certificates, none of them say anything about NCD on them. then i moved to switzerland and had a car for 3 years, but there i just got discounts as a percentage, it says nothing about years, and the nice lass at zurich seemed to think i'd have to get it legally translated into english before they would even look at it.
in short, sounds like i'm shafted. Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: genf_stfc on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 19:34:18 oh,and surprise surprise, zurich insurance (switzerland) has nothing to do with zurich insurance (UK) - especially if they think they might squeeze an extra grand out of you.
Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: Fred Elliot on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 19:34:59 Write to your old insurance companies
They are legally bound to keep your records for 10 yrs Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: genf_stfc on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 20:03:47 bet they aren't in switzerland... and its the last 4 years that are important. reckon i'll just have to get third party until i can get anything out of them and then see if its anything a company over here will accept before thinking about renegotiating.
don't want to get insurance now saying i have 7 years no claims, then have a crash, then find out i can't prove my record and get stuck with a large bill and potentially done for fraud n' all. Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 21:02:51 Most insurers won't take foreign insurance policies into account for NCD purposes.
And it's 6 years they have to keep your records for, not 10. Go to Elephant.co.uk, they assume you're correct in claiming NCD until you have an accident. If you don't claim after a year, you will have a genuine certificate with 9 NCD years on it. Easy. Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: Gazza's Fat Mate on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 12:00:29 In accordance with the 4th Derecetive Insurance forgien insurane compianes are obliged to co-operate. Zurich switsland will be part of Zurich group worldwide as such as NCD earned thre should be transfered to Zurcih UK.
Anyway the most NCD your can earn is 75% which = 5 years without accident. I would suggest that you speak to your local insurance broker. Your average norhten dickhead who works in a call centre for zurich will just about know how to breathe nevermind deal with something a bit different. Whereas a local indepent broker will be able to sort you out. PM if you have any other problems and I will be help to phone you to discuss. As i work in the industry at the higher level. Title: potentially stupid car insurance question Post by: Gazza's Fat Mate on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 12:02:12 ps: your certifacet of insurance has nothing to do with NCD that will be on your scehdule of insurance with is different. Most insurance compines take your word for it regard NCD and the indusrty sercert is that only 1 in 10 are ever checked.

Zurich actually aren't in Newcastle any more, they're in Cardiff. Which is probably no different, if not worse. I may well be testing this very theory shortly (well, January) and shopping around a lot! |
