Title: British weather
Post by: BANGKOK RED on Friday, August 17, 2007, 14:12:38
I am hoping that next year I will be able to take my wife to the UK for the first time, and it may not be during the summer!!!!. Having never left a tropical climate before my wife doesn't seem take in what I tell her about the gale force winds, with freezing stinging rain, whilst waiting for hours for a taxi ect. Help me out wiv some examples so that I may get my point across....

There's some pictures of the recent floods on a thread somewhere...

Bit extreme. Not sure that will help. I suppose you get a rainy season in tropical climates anyway.

Iv'e had a few bevvies' so maybe I over-reacted a bit, but would you say that to someone that you have never met in a pub? But to answer your question, yes people do "buy" wife's over here, and many who do not come to buy a wife to take home, still end up buying love.... It's a fucked up culture in many ways because the general opinion is that you have to have money to be happy, and you cannot be happy without money. The farangs (Westerners) give the girls money, and the girls give them "Love", until the farang runs out of money that is.

It is embarassing to hear the farangs bragging that they shagged this girl or that girl  and "She says she loves me", or "Handsome man" when the fact is that for about 2,000 baht  (about 25-30) quid that girl would love an 18 stone GERMAN !!!

I am one of the lucky few who has a misses with integrity, and I know that
because when I first met her I did'nt have a pot to piss in, and there are not many farangs out here who can say that. She has a professional job and works hard for her family, AND THAT IS WHY I BITE.

Besides which the cultural differences here are huge. It is difficult to understand for many. But one thing is for sure, Thailand is unique, and it is fun fun fun fun fun.

Have you got a freezer in your house??  If so just bundled her in there for an hour or two and she'll get the idea.

Or chuck her in the shower fully clothed and put on the power shower for a bit (on coldest setting).

I'm sure she'll thank you for the "heads up".

Why were you sat at Clark Ralphy? Can you see Graham Hill or Surtees from there?

I was sat on the top of Paddock Hill, can see the whole track from up there bar a tiny little bit of Clearways.  8)

Got a beaut of a view of the 11 car pile up in race 1 going up towards Druids, where Neal went got involved (shame, what a cunt). It was all happening at Paddock all day!

Shame they abandoned the Clios though, they're always a quality race.

P.S. It was absolutely wanking it down

Sat at Clark for the first race mate.

You can see surtees and clearways very well. Graham Hill is just visable.

What happened in race 1? I haven't seen the TV footage? I heard Matt Jackson caused it?

Makes a change from Fiona Leggatte

Yeah Jackson spun on the way up the Hill towards Druids (understandable as very wet and his BMW is RWD). Matt Neal went into the back of him as he started to  straighten up (they were about 5th and 6th at the time) and in the attempts to try and avoid it, the rest of the field pretty much just went piling into each other. Took ages to sort it out, and I think Matt Neal and Dave Pinkney went to hospital. You going to Knockhill or Thruxton?

Been there  8)

One of the UK's best tin-top circuits

Unlike Thruxton, which is utter wank for spectators

haha, it's not all that much different to going to Carlisle away though really (the few extra hours drive aside). Best to go for the weekend though

Knockhill is a great circuit, just outside Dunfermline.

I shall be going to Thruxton yes, you?

Did Fiona Leggate actually complete one lap?

Title: British weather
Post by: Gelbfüßler on Monday, August 20, 2007, 20:36:16
No she didn't, got involved in the pile-up on the first lap in race one, missed the 2nd race due to damage, and started the 3rd race from the pits but beached it at paddock on the first lap! Poor Fiona.

Won't be going to any more BTCC meetings until next year I don't think. Planning on going to Noristring to watch DTM next year though, and gonna go back to Brands next year for BTCC too.

World Touring cars are on at Brands soon, might do that.

Yeah I was tempted but would have to go on my own and this weekend cost me a bomb. Some proper old-school touring car drivers in the WTCC. I remember when Prilaux (sp) was racing Renault Spiders in BTCC suport races, just like Plato did in 1996

Aren't Thompson and Muller in WTCC now?

Good to see Cleland in the Renault Clio's. Another great BTCC driver from the past.

Post by: Gelbfüßler on Monday, August 20, 2007, 21:46:50
Yeah, John Cleland used to be my hero    I think it's his son who races in the Clios now. John's an absolute legend though.

Some Touring Car veterans of note in the WTCC:

Nicola Larini
Gabrielle Tarquini
Alain Menu
Yvan Muller
James Thompson
Rickard Rydell
Joerg Mueller

Alex Zanardi races in a special adapted car, and there's a bloody woman in it as well!
