Limewire is legal as it is a file sharing software. all your doing is copying from other peoples machines accross the world. i use limewire pro and it's quality Title: MP3 downloads Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 13:45:43 i'm pretty sure limewire is illegal.
Title: MP3 downloads Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 13:50:28 Quote i'm pretty sure limewire is illegal. Title: MP3 downloads Post by: Titch on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 13:56:29 It is not so much Limewire itself being illegal as what you do with it! Basically using any of these file-sharing things and getting music, software etc is illegal!
Title: MP3 downloads Post by: magicroundabout on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 14:00:47 yeah true.
i have got loads of stuff from it. Nero Burner 6 was one of my best finds Title: MP3 downloads Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 14:55:46 It's not an important law and no-one cares. I'm hardly going to pay 75p a track to download music, that's ridiculously overpriced for what you're getting. Just get it for free.
Title: MP3 downloads Post by: Boeta on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 15:00:14 I downloaded NHL2002 off Limewire <edit> last week </edit> and it's damn sweet 8)
Title: MP3 downloads Post by: Barry Potter on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 15:15:19 I'm sure I seen on the news recently that there's a big court case going in America to enable the people who create the p2p networks to be sued/shut down, atm they can't be touched cause it's the users and not the creators breaking any laws. I might have heard it wrong but it could have a big impact on these file sharing things, depending on which way the court case goes.
Title: MP3 downloads Post by: timmyg on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 16:44:37 Blimey. I always thought that it was legal... So if you file-share, you're breaking the law? But nobody does anything, right? There aren't gonig to be SWAT teams breaking through my windows at 4am to bum me, are there?
If it is illegal, why wouldn't they just create a law to make the programmes illegal too. Surely they are facilitating the illegal activities... Not that I want them too, I was just wondering how they had gone for so long without anything happenening. Getting the pay-to -use p2p programmes for free is cool as. Title: MP3 downloads Post by: Dazzza on Thursday, March 31, 2005, 17:08:19 You have to be careful on some of these file sharing programs a mate of mine was nabbed for downloading a film.
It doesn't hppen that often as it costs these companies more to prosecute in legal fees than they recouperate that's why they make an example of those they do nab. Remember a few years back in Napsters glory days they grabbed an eight year olds parents as she downloaded a nursery rhyme. Just the sort of thing to make headlines and put the wind up folk. That said the chaps that write the software can simply up-sticks to the likes of China where they are beyond the law at present. Must admit I have started using Apples store for a couple of albums mainly because I have switched to MP3s and the hassle of downloading rare tracks one by one, putting them into a format is a bit to much hassle. Getting the pay-to -use p2p programmes for free is cool as. they can't make the programs illegal because technically there's nothing illegal about them and i think it's only letting people upload files from you on limewire that is illegal, not downloading them (for some reason due to strange laws).
