Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: Batch on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 14:10:03 I can' t believe I just saw what I just saw.
Alonso backed Hamilton up in the pits meaning Hamilton missed his last flying lap and possible pole position (probable given he looks lighter than Alonso). It looked very much as if it was Alonso's own idea. The mechanics were 'ready' and the lollipop was up for several seconds (5 or more) before he cleared allowing Hamilton to pit. If there was an 'order' to Alonso, it certainly wasn't part of Ron Denis plan as evident by his immediate reaction! To snafu your team mate is THE cardinal F1 sin, even if it isn't technically against the rules. All adds up to again showing that Alonso is not the 'talent' he is portrayed to be. Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 14:12:47 snafu :?

Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 14:21:49 Typical. Alonso is using every trick in the book to try get back the lead in the championship. Hopefully Mclaren will be pissed off and give priority to Hamilton
Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: ghanimah on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 14:37:19 The body language of Lewis at the press conference said everything.
Alonso has in effect paid the ultimate compliment to Hamilton - 'if I can't beat you on the track then...' Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: walrus on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 16:30:45 I didn't see the incident, but it sounds as though Alonso's move is somewhat Michael Schumacher-esque. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, "professionalism" is prevalent in many of todays modern sports as competitors try every last trick to get that elusive edge. Technically speaking, what Alonso has done is not outside the rules, and therefore can only be deemed fair. Kudos to him for thinking up such a cunning tactic. Part of Schumacher's brilliance was being able to think outside "the box". E.g.: Silverstone, when he completed a stop-go penalty on the final lap therefore minimising the time lost driving through the pits...
Having said that, I hate the Spanish prick and I hope Hamilton nails him into the first corner tomorrow... Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: Batch on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 17:07:36 Quote 116) b) If, in the opinion of the stewards, a driver deliberately stops on the circuit or impedes another driver in any way during the qualifying practice session his times will be cancelled . I certainly do not condone Alonso's tactics, especially when it was proven that he sat in the pit box, with Hamilton behind him, for 10 seconds AFTER the lollipop was raised. IMO that was a deliberate action by Alonso alone, and he deserved the punishment from the stewards. Anyway, race is run now and Golden Balls won, so everyone will be happy then... Correct. Hamilton should be severely bollocked for disobeying team orders. Alonso should be severely bollocked for his hissy fit waiting in the pits. Interesting to see how Ron sorts it out. In his post race ITV interview who was he claiming didn't think they had equipment parity with the other driver, presumably Alonso? The stewards enquiry results are here and clarifies the explanation the team gave them: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/61373 Stepneygate, feuding teammates, it sure is a million time more interesting than the on the track action. Title: F1 - Hungarian Grand Prix Post by: glos_robin on Sunday, August 5, 2007, 17:06:36 This is just the typical attitude of this country unfortunately, happened briefly after the Rugby World cup, happens every tournament England are in, happened with the Ashes win......the list goes on.
As soon as an England do well in any sport thousands jump on the bandwagon and as soon as anyone does anything borderline or heaven forbid beat the English guy we instantly label them a cheating cunt. Alonso shouldn't have done what he did and neither should Hamilton, Alsonso's move was probably direct retalliation so was an internal matter not something the FIA should have got involved in. For things such as this the FIA stewards should only investigate if a complaint is received from a team. No complaint was made so its just a case of the stewards poking their nose into somewhere it doesn't belong probably due to public and sponsor pressure. If Hamilton had did it despite what people on here have said they would have been saying how clever it was. Then when punished everyone would say what an injustice it was and complaining the FIA are bent etc. As I said it was an internal matter, no complaint was made...the FIA had no no real reason to get involved! They also don't have any real proof that what Alonso did was deliberate so the old saying innocent until proven guilty seems to not apply....
