Great news IMO.

The thought of GB not holding a Grand Prix seemed ridiculous.  Least with the new developments GB can stay on the map as one of the circuits in the long run.

Only problem is that it's opening up an already massive void between Silverstone and, say Donington and Brands Hatch. Would be nice to have more than one circuit that was capable of holding a GP, especially as the races at Silverstone are never that good anyway.

They are always threatening to take GP away esp Silverstone and other European countries for example France, in favour of great bribes for the FIA from the Far Eastern countries.
In my opinion F1 came from Europe and should stay here

I believe that every nationality of racing driver should have a circuit in his own country and thats how it should always be.

Poor news - reading into the plans they are all upgrades to Gold Ticket areas and the paddock and pits.
So once again the general public will be stood on a gravel bank at Vale or a dusty hill at Club. These are the areas that make Silverstone look second hand, they should be turned into concrete steps like at Copse corner, which enable them to fit more people with folding chairs in, allowing them to sell more tickets.

That said the last lot of upgrades to all the toilet facilities were superb and quadrupled the amount of loo space...

what I meant is that if the powers that be had their way in F1 every race would be in the Far East and that isn't right

What you actually meant is that is somebody/government/organisation offers to throw money at Bernie Ecclestone for the privilege of holding a GP, they'll get it at the expense of traditional venues like Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps, Monza etc.

Bernie Ecclestone is a Grade A cunt IMO. Although he's not as high on my hate list as certain STFC Board Members...

What if they had 22 drivers all of different nationalities?!  22 races would be very difficult to fit into the calender...

I think a British GP is a must simply because of the fan base here.  The actual Silverstone circuit for me needs livening up (maybe a loop-the-loop or something?!) though it is a track which makes for some good overtaking...  I'm just glad Magny Cours won't be with us next year, that circuit bores the trousers off me.

The biggest travesty was when they took Spa off the calender....  Thank God it's back!   :D

Indeed! Watching an F1 car tackle Eau Rouge at max chat is one awesome sight. I remember watching crap Jacques Villeneuve wipe out big time there in '98 - an accident he latter described as the 'best he'd ever had'. Respect, you fucking nutcase!

I knew someone would mention that but it always follows suit that there are always more than one nationality!

That's ruined my afternoon  :(

Eau Rouge is mental....  Anyone remember that wet race at Spa a few years ago with a 16 car pile-up at the start?  Pussies red-flagged the race....

That one - mental...

What was even better was watching the running race back to the pits afterwards between about 9 drivers!
Most overtaking there's ever been in Formula 1!

Belgium is the best race ever and should never be removed from the F1 calender.

And the pit lane punch up between Schumacher (M) and Coulthard.
And the first and only win by a Jordan.

Great track, brilliant atmosphere, shit weather...

How would a new nationality of driver start up ? Would there be a Scottish Grand Prix for Coulthard, for example ?

Moving to Donington from 2010.

Silverstone is a bit shabby though when you look at all the other tracks on the F1 tour.

Title: Silverstone
Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, July 4, 2008, 17:48:46
It is.

Mind you Donington is going to cost loads more to get up to standard than Silverstone would, the track needs lengthening, traffic is a nightmare etc.

Hope they can pull it off though.

My boss has offered an office performance bonus of us going to the Malaysian GP next year.

I don't like to get myself excited for things that may not happen but...... ....

I'm a bit pissed that they're lengthening the track at Donnington. It's a nice little track as it is, quite technical but a good straight for getting the rubber down.

Post by: Batch on Friday, July 4, 2008, 20:23:53
I'll be amazed if Donnington can be made ready in 2 years. They need a new track, it has worse access than Silverstone and the rest of the facilities are sub standard. More to play out on this one I feel. Remember when Brand Hatch "won" the GP in 1999, only to find out they couldn't actually do it in time, on budget and had the threat of Swampy and Pals chaining themselves to trees.

The point is I don't see the point in pissing around with Donnington for 2 years when it has taken Silverstone 16 years of continual improvement to get from where Donnington is now. I'd imagine it's not about "standards", but about Bernie getting a fatter wedge.

Also, I got sunburnt today, shouldn't be a problem for the race Sunday as it looks like it's going to piss down.  And we are in an uncovered stand (Stowe)
