Title: Rodrigo Brescia...
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, July 23, 2007, 19:59:09
........who we're allegedly playing in Austria would seem on the surface to be Italian, but can find no reference to such a side....wasn't Rodrigo a trialist from Portugal, who mysteriously disappeared last season.

The plot is thickening.....I noticed Adrian Ilie who plays for Jiul Petrosani is a bit of a football entrepreneur...he's recently acquired a Romanian side called Forex Braşov....and has property developments in Brasov.

I've hated Austria since the Anschluss.....Kurt Waldheim and Toni Polster :fu:

Just googled Rodrigo Brescia and come up with..................................................

Nothing.

Maybe they're a pub side, or maybe it's an error an we're playing Brescia.

I hated Austria ever since in went to Vienna back in 97.  Never been surrounded by so many miserable people as I was for those few days.

I've nothing against Austria at all, except the distinctly average Germanic cuisine on offer when I visitied a few years back - as for Rodrigo Brescia?  who?

Maybe it's just Brescia who we're playing and the Rodrigo bit is a complete red herring. I think a lot of the Italian sides go up that way in the summer. That would be a decent fixture. They finished 10th in Serie B last season according to Wikipedia.

The OS has corrected the spelling.  It appears to be these guys who are playing in Serie C2, having been promoted from Serie D last season.

Fair play Chris I was just looking up the correct team name myself.

Serie D last season - oh dear.  Not that great a standard then.

isnt serie D like hellenic league standard?  :?

Post by: chrisser on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, 11:47:29
C1 has 2 regional divisions.  Below that, C2 has 3 regional divisions, D has 9 regional leagues.

So the 3 C2 leagues would be equivalent of say Conference National, North and South, split on a regional basis.

Teams promoted from D would probably compare with Bath and Chippenham

So we should win even with the reserves out.  The trialists won't be able to prove much against that standard of opposition though

In the latest twist, according to the Adver, we're playing someone called VC Bad Ischl .....are you ready for this... VC apears to stand for Vespa Club, who seem to be an Austrian mod mob.

Someone somewhere is taking the piss.

I think it should be SV Bad Ischl??

Here are some interesting facts on Bad Ischl the town/village (pop 14,000), looks nice from the pictures I found).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Ischl

I see this as an 'extra' mix of a training session/game rather than a proper friendly..

Judging by the fact we won 4-0 with a team full of trialists, I'd imagine it was the mods we played.....always a Lambretta man myself.

Another one of the trialists is a Portugueser winger called Hugo.

But it doesn’t sound like Sturrock is that overly impressed with the overall standard.  In today’s BBC interview he mentioned that while the trialists are all technically adept he doesn’t know if they can adapt to the English game.

It is starting to sound fairly likely that these investors are definitely agents of sorts.

Maybe Sturrock would know if we played some friendlies against some league one and league two clubs!!

I thought that managers generally didn't like playing friendlies against teams that they'll be playing in the season?

The Portuguese Fallon, Guima...

http://www.cdfeirense.pt/xsitev2/Ficheiros/imagens/Guima.JPG

I wonder what will crop up in this foreign trial game shenanigans.  King did a few just after the end of each season and never found anything other than a couple of French players Sabin’s agent brought over and that never came to anything.

In fact Sabin’s agent played in one game and King ended up saying he was the best player on the pitch.

Meh I need more rumours  :D

Having random foreign trialists is always exiting. I think it's the prospect of somehow finding some crazy super player who those crazy foreign clubs have managed to overlook, or is desperate to play in England.

It appears to be 0-0 at half time against the cattenachio of the Eyeties whatever they're called.....sounds like a stunner.

    :(  lost 0-1.

I'm not worried by the lack of goals. We scored 4 in the previous game and i'll only start worrying if we don't score when the season proper actually begins.

I'll be happy as long as we bring in at least one more striker prior to Northampton - Which will happen :|

Did you notice Peacock's first game of the tour was to come on up front for the last 30 mins? We might be seeing that a few more times between now and Northampton.

I'm going to start saying semi-likely stuff with an authoritative sort of "it's going to happen" style comment afterwards. If I do it enough times then a few of them are bound to happen. Then I can do I told you so threads in a few months.

Go me.

We'll draw some games this season.

Thought this was quite interesting, report in the adver.

'The first real shot on goal came on 28 minutes when Roberts' right-wing cross was instictivbely fired wide by Spanish triallist Ivon Arrieta from the edge of the area'

Sign him up, we need strikers that are going to instinctively miss the goal!!
