Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:08:42 Well my car is full of water, our house is starting to fill with water ..........this is so fucking shit its unbelievable.
Does anyone know if flood damage is covered on fully comprehensive car insurance as my car is on the driveway also filling up with water? Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: axs on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:10:23 shit, sorry to hear that. i assume fully comp means just that doesn't it? especially if it's on your property and not somewhere random?
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:14:25 Yeah but the area has never flooded before, am worried they pull out the old act of god shit
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: axs on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:14:59 according to this you should be covered, but they might put your premium up if they think it might happen regularly
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/209328/flood_claims_hike_premiums.html Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: axs on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:16:00 i think you should be covered but might lose no claims bonus etc
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:17:15 If I lose my no claims bonus then the insurance on my new car would be shocking so would have to find another way to fix any damage
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: axs on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:18:34 guess the only way is to call the insurer and find out for certain, they all have their own terms and conditions. it's probably on the website, can look it up for you if you want.
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:24:43 I'm with elephant and had a look around and couldn't find anything, cheers though mate. Its July and the biggest floods I've ever seen, the weather has gone mad
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: axs on Friday, July 20, 2007, 23:37:59 doesn't say anything in the policy about not covering flood damage and if you no have a no claims protection policy then you should be fine.

Pictures as of 06:00 Just woke up, trapped upstairs as downstairs is flooded Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: herthab on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 05:31:31 We've had hardly any rain down here in Somerset.
Most of the footage on tv shows new houses flooded. I think developers have got a lot to answer for............ Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: Batch on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 07:53:47 Ah shit glos_robin, sorry to see that happen. It's going to take time but at least it's all fixable/insured.
As already said, I would imagine the car insurance will be fine. I think the 'act of god' clauses are long gone, but like already said it will probably effect your NCD - if the NCD is protected then you will have an excess to pay and probably a higher insuance premium next renewal :( House buildings/contents insurance will be an excess to pay and a possibly higher premium next time. They covered us for out washing machine leaking and destroying lino/chipboard floor so you should be fine here too. Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 08:19:33 Quote from: "herthab" I think developers have got a lot to answer for............ indeed, they build houses but mainly flats on any land they can find ASAP, surely the drainage cannot be done 100% correctly in such short time periods. But such is the demand for housing that this urge to build as many flats as soon as anywhere may not help Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 09:20:59 All the new houses at Priory Vale in Swindon are built on a flood plain, I imagine quite a few of them got flooded out yesterday.
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: TalkTalk on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 09:24:48 Really sorry Glos - that's shit.
Hope you sort it out quickly. Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: janaage on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 10:18:43 You should be covered on your car insurance but unless you have protected no claims I expect you will lose your no claims.
As for the "act of God/terrorism" style of exclusions that are included in policies do not worry about it mate. If you consider Russia launching a three nuclear bomb attack on uk wiping out London, Birmingham and Manchester the insurance companies could not afford to pay out every building, life, income protection claim that came in, so they have to protect themselves. In times like these yes there are plenty of cliams but nothing that would put a company out of business, therefore it'd be really bad press if your company decide hide behind that exclusion and another company pays out. So in summary you shouldn't have any problems claiming for flood damage. Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: lebowski on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 10:53:50 i'm lucky in that my home is fine but i really feel for you mr glos robin.
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: lebowski on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 10:54:12 ps. i hope you keep your season ticket upstairs.
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 10:59:36 Not protected no claim as needed 4 years no claims which would ironically be next month.
So as long as the thing moves I'll just get rid me thinks. It is being part exchanged towards my new car which is due Sept 1st but if I could get it before then possibly. If that happens I'll take them up on the early off make sure mine is clean and is running and give it to them to deal with before any problems develop on it. Can't see the central locking light flashing though so the ECU might be fucked. Downstairs in the house is abit shit is a bit shit and the loss adjusters are going to be busy down here........that what happens when they keep building on the fucking flood plains that surround Tewkesbury. Currently got the blue Police helicopter circling and some dirty great oil rig transporter helicopter helping out. Utter chaos, can see the M5 from my house and that was like a car park all night as well Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: millom red on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 11:05:26 Hope it clears up for you soon Glos...
More to come yet according to the beeb....good luck mucca. Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 11:08:05 Cheers mate, strangely the internets fine but the BT line is now down....strange.
The waters starting to drop but everything downstairs from floors, walls to furniture we couldn't get upstairs will need replacement. Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: janaage on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 12:19:58 fucking hell man, that's pretty rough.
Hope you get it all sorted as soon and with as little trouble as possible!! Funnily enough a mate of mine at work lives in one of those new houses, built on the flood plain in Tewkesbury, the ginger bastard!! Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: pumbaa on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 12:39:49 Sorry to hear about all your troubles glos. Hope you get everything sorted out quickly as I know its very unpleasant living in a damp house.
Insurance companies are very smart nowadays. They know by postcode whether your house is built on a flood plain, and will load your premium accordingly. You should be covered fine, but as others have said, may find subsequent renewal premiums more expensive. I've no idea about how your car insurance will be dealt with though. Title: It's all fucked!! Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: glos_robin on Sunday, July 22, 2007, 09:21:53 Dunno, but there about to turn our Water off until at least Wednesday in Tewkesbury as I quote 'they didn't put their flood defences up in time today (Sunday)' at the water treatment plant. How fucking dumb can they be, it was flooding all around them for the last day and a half so all the Severn Trent managers should get the sack. That means we've got no water to clean cars, the house etc........utter chaos, and the water levels rising again :|
Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Sunday, July 22, 2007, 09:25:38 bbc news 24 said your water supply will run out some time this afternoon.

I didnt put my view across in the way I intended but yeah I am big enough (no pun intended) to say I was a cunt for what I wrote. Think weve all seen how bad these floods were and how it can cause massive damage. Im surprised more people on here havent been affected.
Anyway I was wrong and apologies if I offended anyone Title: It's all fucked!! Post by: RobertT on Sunday, July 22, 2007, 16:32:38 I do love the way our Country falls to pieces with a bit of dodgy weather though. I was in Florida when a Hurricane came through and the whole state just switched mode for a day or two to ensure they cope, then flicks straight back. Everything shuts, bunkers down and sees it out. Most of our problems are caused by trying to carry on regardless and then we end up with 10 minute journeys in Town taking 2 hours because nobody had stayed at home.

Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, July 22, 2007, 16:38:52 Most of our problems this week was poor drivers! One big puddle on Bassett road and the tail backs were 2 miles, all they had to do was drive through it at the edge slowly, but no lets try and drive through the middle! Same goes for when it snows!

Nah, I still went out for dinner that night, just they stop the stupid unimportant stuff (I'm not talking about America as a whole, just that state) like going to work in a call centre etc. there were still people out surfing though. They just seemed to understand that mother nature wins, everytime. Better to let her have her stage and then come on for the encore. We have idiots deciding 6 inches of rain means the end of the world as we know it. In Bangladesh their bloody houses get washed away, here we get emotional about some pensioner who looses her carpet. We might carry on regardless, but we don't half make a Saturday evening melodrama out of it. |
