Expect to enjoy the Guinness. It seriously does taste better in Ireland than anywhere else. Dublin's great, but not cheap.

If you see Andrea Corr, give 'er one from me

All Guiness is brewed in Dublin these days so I cant see how it would taste different. :?

I think its a psychological thing. You are in Ireland, ergo the Guinness must be better.

Last time I was there (2000), it most certainly WAS better than what we got this side of the Irish Sea (I mean England btw).

You are right though, all the Guinness is now brewed in Dublin. It certainly wasn't when I was there, and it seriously did taste better. Like you say, who gives a shit

Oddly enough, when I went to Dublin about 10 years ago I went to the place they make Guiness and hated it. It is now my drink of choice after sampling it in Lux earlier this year!

fuckin' arse beer - tastes like blandness on a bed of bland with extra bland on the side - marketing ploy

It does taste better over there, I imagine they actually take care of it rather than passing it through some dirty shite pump that probably just had the Carling with excessive nitrogen added.

Expensive, and watch out for the late night price change in most pubs (used to get a late license I think).

Have a pop up to Kilmannon Gaol (sp?) if in Dublin, there is a lovely pub called The Patriot next door which gave us a very warm welcome, something along the lines of "why don't those fucking British tourists all just fuck off home".  This went down pleasingly following the 2 hour tour of the jail which was basically a story of how nasty the British were to the Irish.

Indeed.

It doesn't seem two years ago when you would look for "Brewed in Dublin" on a can rather than "Brewed in London"  :?

The further away from Dublin you get, the nicer they are. Thats not to say the locals in Dublin aren't friendly because generally they are.

Try and find a local village pub out in Co Mayo, and get yourself to a Craic. We went to one with the owners of a B&B we stayed at. Lock in until 0500. Messy...

Well....what can I say?!

Dublin is expensive. Very expensive. A lot of foreigners, temple bar is a bit dodgy. Guiness is ok.

Mayo on the otherhand is much nicer. 2 Euro's a pint cannot be bad! Pubs officially are supposed to shut at half 11, but were still serving at gone 3 on a tuesday night.   Went to horse racing. That was ace. Mrs decided to stand on a wasp at 3 in the morning, the nearest hospital was 40 mins away.

Would never go to Dublin again, but Mayo is such a friendly county. Only disappointing thing was not being able to find a football shirt because the sports shops had mainly liverpool, celtic and sunderland shirts... :?

The reason Guiness tastes better in Dublin is because they don't put any preservatives in it. All the Guiness that is brewed in Ireland only has a shelf life of about 4 weeks, but it doesn't matter because they drink it so fast. All the Guiness that is exported has preservatives so that it lasts longer.

PS, those 3 guys dressed in green with orange beards are not Irish. They are American!

Told you it was ace out there.  You obviously didn't look in Elvery's in either Westport or Castlebar for a Mayo shirt did you?! My Dad came back with one lest week.  Your mullet must have been in your eyes.

That is because they mainly only play Gaelic football you Spaz, the smaller towns have soccer teams but they don't have shirt franchises

I'd definately go back, could even live there. Galways a good place aswell. Good shopping. But food is quite expensive. My Mrs can earn nearly £20k more over there by doing the exact same job as she does here!

I cant stand Tayto's! Put a little smile on my face though!
In a couple of weeks my fridge will be full of Galtee cheese, Cadbury's Golden crisps (small bars!) and savoury mince sachets!

I should be in Ireland now. Im missing the duck race and sheep racing for my towns homecoming weekend, but my ma fucked up her holidays so i couldnt get the same time off... i cant afford to get over on my own :(
AND they are taking my son...i'll be lost without a child.
