Title: Bayo Akinfenwa
Post by: Panda Paws on Saturday, June 16, 2007, 01:16:24
Heard a very dodgy rumour that we may be in for him, simple question is would you be happy too see him come here or not??

Personally, I think if he improves his fitness and can recapture his form from a year or 2 ago, he can be a very powerful and quick partner for Corr or Sturrock, and can also finish. PS keeps reiterating his desire for different types of strikers, so far we've got the target man and the slow, clever player that likes to drop off and run the channels, now we need pace and power, and Bayo fits the bill

Like Ted said if he can get back his form of 2 years ago then id be very happy if we signed him.

I'll go ask someone that knows a few of the Swansea players if this is true or not.

I think he'd be a decent signing to be honest.  Always a player that has caused us problems over the years.

King said he as worthless when he scored the winner against us for Boston in the Paint Rover Trophy, so sign him.

After a few days the kiddy that knows him has told me that he's close to signing for Gillingham as it is currently the best offer and closest to his London home.

The Gills are very active in the transfer market at the moment.

Most of the signings are dross thought, players that have struggled at this level previously.......Bayo would change that i guess

Nope, career high was 14 goals for Torquay when they got relegated from league one.

Was Parkin prolific when we bought him?  Mooney came to swindon after three years of fuck all and churned the goals out. At the end of the day we have to find players that knowone else sees anything in, thus getting them cheap, then hoping the goals will come from the style fo play our team plays.  Despite what appears to be a regular form of income through transfers totalling in excess of £2,000,000 in the last 3 years, we appear to have a larges fee spent of £70,000. Enough said. We cant affford to buy a 30 goal a season stirker, we have to find one who hasnt doen it yet!

Never been a fan in the past - always struck me as a bit of a cock, but with sturrock's style of play - getting the crosses into a bloke the size of Akinfenwa...he'll be getting a fair few goals under his belt

edit: he's 5ft11....could have sworn he was huge

he's a lump of a forward.  The WDP article is bemusing - £50k transfer fee when we can't pay the CVA and then with Akinfenwa they mention him moving here as it's closest to home - but wouldn't Gillingham be closer and probably pay more given they have already splashed out £200k on a player, let alone the wages.

Bayo is as wide as he is tall, powerful as fuck and quick as anything a couple of years ago. Him and Corr could certainly work, beanpole Corr and powerhouse Bayo......now just got to think of a song......... :-))(

believe Bayo is out of contract. Swansea are only offering 1 year so he is pissed off. If we offer him 2 or 3 he wil sign here.

Sturrock doesn't seem to sign players on individual merit, but how they will work within the team. I wasn't expecting much from Corr, but in the handful of games he played he did really well. Hopefully that will continue.

Bayo has had talks with Sturrock, all went positively according to the adver site, but he has two other clubs interested in him, both League 1, one of them apparently Gillingham.

Lets hope Luggy worked his magic, this guy can score goals and would be a handful alongside Corr.

I see what you did there adje.

Pure Gold 8)

I think Akincrapwa or whatever his name is would probably be a decent signing. I saw him play when we drew 2-2 at Torquay t'other season and I thought he looked strong and fast and generally a bit of a handful.

I am also of the opinion that if Stuffock thinks he is good then he probably is.

never ever rated him. one of those strikers that lacks class in the finishing department, he's got many other attributes but slotting the ball in the net isnt one of them.

now, fallon wasn't the greatest of finishers but he did alright but i'm of the opinion that we have a team full of people who don't take their chances, surely we don't need another one?

then again, Henry couldnt finish for shit when he first joined arsenal and needed a good 5 chances to grab a goal, and sometimes players with superb finishing ability can also turn out to be utter shight anyway, exhibit A, Jamie Slabber.

but yeah, if sturrock rates him then i can't complain.

To be fair, those available on a free - there's not much better out there - and if there is (Leon Best) then they're being snaffled by better clubs.

Our best bet is to get Akinfenwa in, and then go and get a ridiculously talented kid from a Prem club to bang a few in.

He'll want 4 or 5 strikers - Corr, Akinfenwa, Blair, kid....

It's not SSP and Mooney, but you never know

In theory, a team will 4 strikers in, Roberts, Peacock, Corr and ....., should be able to score goals.

he has a slightly better record than I thought actually, if you ignore the sub appearances.  I suppose the concern would be his lack of consistency in his career and that he's been round the houses a bit.

http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=36629

I would certainly still want an out and out striker if we sign someone like him.
