Title: Elton John? Post by: Elvis Presley on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:08:35 Well I've guess I've been rejected before in ma life, but I've never been turned down in favour of Mr Elton John. I can confirm that I, Elvis Presley, was in talks with Mr Mike Sullivan to do my 2005 comeback show at the County Ground, Swindon. However Mr Sullivan told me he thought the people of Swindon would prefer hearing the sounds of Nikita, than listen to the sweet music of American Trilogy.
God bless you all, the King has left the building. Title: Elton John? Post by: janaage on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:13:39 I reckon I might go and see Elton at the CG, fair play to the people behind this, good to see the club get some revenue from a non-footballing source!!
Title: Elton John? Post by: yeo on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:16:17 Fuckin hell I thought this was a joke.I think ill give it a miss though i might take the old dear if I can be arsed

Title: Elton John? Post by: Piemonte on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:26:25 I've seen some bizzare things happen in my time as a Swindon fan.
This has to be up there with the best of them Title: Elton John? Post by: janaage on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:27:06 Wait to see how much tickets are. If STFC are charging £23 to watch third level footie, I wonder what they're gonna charge to see one of the most famous singers in the world.
Title: Elton John? Post by: McLovin on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:28:51 It'll be around the U2 prices, which quite frankly are ridiculous.
Title: Elton John? Post by: Piemonte on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:29:34 its on the official site, 60, 40 and 35 i think from memory
Title: Elton John? Post by: McLovin on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:30:42 I'll sit outside, mincing to RocketMan then.
Title: Elton John? Post by: yeo on Friday, March 18, 2005, 09:32:15 This will either fund a new pitch for next year or send us into admistration again.Probably the second option knowing our lot.Are we sure its not a look alike at the County Ground Hotel 8)
Title: Elton John? Post by: Marie on Friday, March 18, 2005, 10:00:41 I think i remember reading hes playing at Ashton Gate and down at Bournemouth's Fitness first stadium aswell.

Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, March 18, 2005, 10:25:36 I thought this was a joke on first readng this thread.....its not exactly a first, as Lindisfarne played in the 70's......remember Le God C posting of old ground pics on thisis.
Though to be fair although popular at the time...they were hardly in Sir Elton's league. Title: Elton John? Post by: reeves4england on Friday, March 18, 2005, 10:27:06 Good to see some money coming in but how do we make much money out of it considering we don't own the ground?!

Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, March 18, 2005, 15:19:10 I think it should be born in mind that when the Lindisfarne gig was tried in the 70's it was a financial disaster, because the town just wasn't ready for something so radical as a gig in the football ground......gates for the football though were often up around the 20 ,000 mark.
Now given that this show is also on at the MadStad and St Mary's, so catering for large amounts of out of towners, I'd be surprised if it pulls in many more than 4 to 5 thousand. Title: Elton John? Depends on how many are being budgetted for and if the powers that be realise you have to pay VAT on the tickets. Title: Elton John? Post by: Piemonte on Friday, March 18, 2005, 16:03:30 Whats VAT?

Whatever you think of EJ, he is such an institution I would have thought he would be guaranteed full houses wherever he goes. You' re going to get people coming from all over Europe, if not the world I would have thought. As an aside, I would imagine the Town's hotels and catering related businesses will have something of a field day as well (not that we're supposed to care about that of course). I can't see how this can be a bad thing oh great prophet of doom and gloom! Title: Elton John? Post by: janaage on Friday, March 18, 2005, 16:18:40 Yeah, times have changed Reg, there are people who'd travel along way to see Elton John, this won't just be a townie event, it'll be a south west event. Not everyone in Reading or Bornmuff we'll get tickets for their local event, so they'd have to travel to another location. This will be a sell out. That's my prediction anyway.
Title: Elton John? Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, March 18, 2005, 16:22:28 I don't think my posting is one of doom and gloom, but rather pointing out that it might be unreasonable to expect this show to pull in more than a few thousand.
If there was a Concert Hall which held 4000, then it would doubtless be sold out and the whole thing hailed as a great success....a football ground is much larger..... Title: Elton John? Title: Elton John? Post by: stfc11 on Friday, March 18, 2005, 22:52:42 I think this could cause problems, if Swindon want to redevelope the ground where it is now, what happens when everyone in the houses around complain about the noise, and with the new ground being more of a sports facility and wanting more concerts there isn't this going to turn the local people against the new stadium even more??
Just a thought Title: Elton John? Post by: Titch on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 09:38:40 Got my tickets this morning! £241 for 3 tickets including booking fee etc! Bargain considering we paid some ridiculous sum to see him at Hampton Court last year!
